The best Thai food in London, back in the 70s/80s, was at The Bangkok, in Bute Street, Sth Kensington. I used to work across the road. Of course, there were very few other Thai restaurants around in those days. But a certain Prime Minister chose to go there to celebrate when she was elected.. It was started by a Thai diplomat who found that it would be less than healthy for him to go back to Thailand at the time. Fabulous old guy. Did not allow background music, and encouraged customers to talk to strangers on the next table.
