Hi,

I'm getting seriously tired of changing black DG once a month! The quality is just horrible, losing pips like crazy. Is there something out there similar to DG but more durable? Is the red one more durable?

Thanks

Yeah, it's annoying how labile the durability is. Labile, meaning, I might get a sheet that lasts 4 months without any pips breaking, and the next sheet might have the shedding off in a week.

I had some breaks break off due to the pressure of the bat case cover (soft case). Sad, because the performance is so awesome.

Part of me also thinks they should just dump the tackiness all together because the best performance is after it breaks in and the tack reduces a bit. Because it takes a while for that to happen, often times your window for top performance is very narrow.

Still, I tolerate it because it's such a spectacular rubber.

Since I now have two identical setups, I change between them very frequently, which helps with both durability (rubber is exposed 50% as much) and because I rotate them, they both wear in.

Is there a difference in durability between the black and red?

Haha, I did the same thing, and I rotated. Still, bat "A" would lose pips in a week, and bat "B" would last for a long time without losing a pip. Then I'd have to buy a new DG for bat "A" because I'd want to have a backup" which is broken in, but just as I glue it on bat "B" would finally lose pips, and then I'd have a new DG which isn't broken in. My narrow windows would often not be aligned...and played pretty differently. When not broken in, it's plays fine, but it's nothing special. Once it's broken in, it's a 10...a dime piece...beautiful.

That's why I stick with P-1R as my main setup, I know exactly what I'm going to get even if it's not quite as easy to use....which is debatable.

Still have DG though, because it's so spectacular when its within it's window of optimal performance, which often is just before it's about to lose pips. :headbang:

Hannah used to use DG with sponge, but changed to Agenda because it's more durable.

Red one seems to be much more durable than black. 6-7 hours a week, 2.5 months, only one pip lost. The black one doesn't last one month...
