Hello Guys,
I'm new in this forum and this is my first post here but I hope I do everything right. :)
So my name is Simon, I'm 18 years old and I used to play table tennis in an club near my home town but I lost interest in it because we had not really much player in my age.
Now after 3 years (or something like that) I'd like to play table tennis once again and am looking for a Penhold Blade.
I don't have any experience playing penhold style I only played shakehand for like 2 and a half years in the club.
I'm really interested in playing J-Pen style with a rpb but I read several times that this isn't very efficient.
So I'm looking for some help because I'm not really into the topic and I thought you guys could maybe help me to get a nice blade to train with. (shouldn't be that expensive if possible)

I was looking for something like the YinHe 987 or the YinHe 989 (to play rpb with it).

Hope you can help me and already thanks for the answers. :)

Sounds like me 6 years ago.

Played shakehand. Discovered I like penhold more. Went to Jpen.

Don't get a Jpen unless it's a two sided one. Even still, I'd probably just pass for a Cpen. Just more options.

If you play duel inverted, great. If you play traditional penhold backhand (TPB), then put something funky on the other side and learn to twiddle for the occasional changeup.

If you want to loop, I like the Yinhe W6 5 play wood blade. Hits very nicely.

I'm selling off my gear because I EJ too much. Pick something and stick with it.

Yinhe W6 with rubbers & case. Only $30. (must live in the US though)

All in all I would say don't get a penhold that's too fast. I would look for something in the All + range to Off -

Thanks for the fast answer.
I guess I will go with a cpen first but I definitely going to try a jpen one day. :)
I'm still not sure if I should get myself the W-6 or the N-11.
And which rubbers I should get, I'm going to try playing a rpb and I heard non tacky rubbers would be the best option for that, any suggestions?
Or would it be just fine if I'd take a double pack of these Friendship Rubbers for 8 bucks?

I honestly think you can play RPB with either. Tacky or non-tacky. Just all about what you get use to.

I wouldn't worry so much about it and just pick something up. Since you'll be new to the grip & strokes, you probably wouldn't be able to tell much difference anyways.

Just get something nice & not crazy fast. But go ahead and make the move. Don't want paralysis by analysis. ;)

The biggest selection of Japanese penhold blades has to be from Armstrong. See if you can find their catalog online, it'll be in Japanese, but there are photos. There must be about 30 or 40 different variations, and there are a lot of "rotor" type two-sided blades. I think these are for twiddling rather than for RPB, but they should be light enough for RPB.

They've also got some weird "undercut handle" blades (the handle is attached above the blade, and the blade tang tapers under the handle).

That one's got all the Armstrong rubbers, but only ONE blade! I'll see if I can find it again.

Ah... Haggis scanned and posted it a while back.

Third blade on Page 18 is undercut.

I have a friend who would like to get back into the game. She played in China, and is a penholder with RPB. She says she used a DHS blade when she was in China, but can't remember which. I want to get her an allround cpen setup for xmas - so recommendations please?

I'm based in the UK, but the UK is poorly served for cpen blades. I'd prefer to buy from a UK or European provider, as I've never bought from the likes of aliexpress or eacheng, as it all seems a bit complicated and slow.

Suggestions?

TT11 has many and fast.
DHS Fang Bo Allwood or Fang Bo Carbon would be a good choice without breaking the bank.
Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Offensive and Ma Lin Soft Carbon is another good choice.
Avx 500/700.

Thanks. What rubbers would be good? I don't mean manufacturer and model - I'll probably just get 729/LKT something or other, but rather whether the same on both sides, and what thickness would be best? I wouldn't want it to be too heavy.

If going with TT11 it narrows down the options a bit.
1. H3 Neo + LKT Pro XP
2. H3-50 + TG3-60

That would be my preference.

You could go with euro/japan rubbers if going up on the budget.
