Where is recommended to play near Manhattan on a Wednesday or Thursday evening, other than Spin? I will be across there in a couple of weeks... thanks

Depends what you're looking for. When I visted NYC I played here:

http://www.fatcatmusic.org/gaming.html

Lots of tables, beer, and noise. Fun, but not very serious.

This place is more serious:

There is, unfortunately, no great place to play in Manhattan due to very rent that cannot support a dedicated table tennis club.

If you're limited to Manhattan, the best place to play on a Wednesday is here: http://thetabletennisacademy.org/ (they are not open on Thursdays). They are only open from 5:30 to 9:30, out can get crowded, and I think their rates are now like $20 per day or some high amount like that, but it's still cheaper than Spin, which is both expensive and bad for anyone trying to play without a beer in their free hand.

On a Thursday, if you're willing to go to Brooklyn, there's a weekly league tournament here http://www.nisonsttc.com that costs $13 and keeps you playing a variety of players from about 8 pm to 11 pm. (People start arriving at about 7:30 to practice.) The B or Q train to the Newkirk Plaza stop takes you relativity close to the club.

There are many clubs in the massive Chinatown in Flushing, Queens. This one http://aacct.org/ny/index.php is your best option if you're coming by subway, as it's not too far from the Main St. stop on the #7 train. (The same guy who runs this place has a Manhattan location in Chinatown, but it's tiny, with horrible lighting and slippery floors.) Flushing is also a mecca of amazing Chinese food from every region, so if that's something you're interested in ....

I think also Wang Chen has a club there too, but difficult space, Robert Chen might have moved his club. Get with UpsidedownCarl from Table Tennis Daily. He is boots on ground there and gets a free pass to play at SPiN, so it is worth PMing him at TTD.
