There are two things to bear in mind about Regalis and Karis.

The factory who make these have been through a few generations of rubber recently. Calibra Tour was pretty poor. They had a great sponge with Airoc, but a shiny topsheet which had it's own character. Karis has a much better topsheet than these earlier examples - not as shiny, more immediately grippy like ESN peers. So does Regalis have this kind of rubber formulation? Or is it more like Airoc?

Then you have the topsheet pip configuration. Karis is interesting because it was designed to avoid the jumpiness you get with other catapult monster modern rubbers. Nexy went to great pains to discuss this, and the topsheet does have super-short pips. Compare with Joola Samba 19 (another from the same factory), which has a lot more catapult and a very different pip layout. So, again, not sure where Regalis fits in here.

Just saying that it might not be similar.

Andy/Isk,

I know this is a thread about the Red, I tried the blue
All I can say is hat whenever I read descriptions of Karis is that it sounds exactly like I'd describe Regalis blue.

It feels pretty new and innovative to me on its linearity without sacrificing power and spin potential.

Top sheet was flat not shiny and very grippy. Just..."comfortable." It inspires confidence.

I am planning to eventually get Karis in red and will have it on the same bat opposite the Regalia Blue.

So then, I'll really have a direct comparison for you.

I can send you my test Karis if you want? Shipping back to me might be expensive though.

Karis M behaves the same way out of the packet (domes like that, or "dishes" or whatever you want to call it, it is the same), and has almost no smell at all. Karis topsheet looks more dull in color, no sheen to it at all. That picture reminds me more of Mantra in terms of color of the topsheet. From sodevo's photo, Karis pips are shorter. I would not conclude that because the two rubbers come from same factory they are all that similar. (Mantra disabused me of that idea, I liked Karis M better in pretty much every aspect). But they might be similar. A lot of what sodevo describes as things he likes about Regalis are things I like about Karis. I would still say Karis is pretty unique in my experience as to how extremely linear it really is.

Might be worth taking macro photos of the back of the topsheets from both, use the cut-off pieces and separate the sponge from the topsheet using the boiling water trick. Or take some edge-on shots like this:

Kinda tempted to do it myself.. but that's a major outlay of moolah just to satisfy a minor point of curiosity.

If I buy any of the Karis, regalis, or stiga rubbers from this factory I'll do it.

I'm likely to get Karis soon...maybe.

Very generous, but it would be too painful for me to part with. Haha

As I've noted, I suspect that factory (Daiki) makes a LOT of different rubbers, given that they have Butterfly, TSP, Yasaka, Nittaku and Juic as clients/partners. There is no requirement that Karis is like anything else they make, though it is possible.

Where exactly can I find Nexy's "discussion" of Karis? Is it in the Nexy blog on this forum?

I've been going through the Regalis reviews to see if it really is similar to Nexy Karis. What I don't see is the assertions that it's something entirely new in rubber design, which has been said of Karis. Also nothing about amazing control. Regalis is easily available, not the case for Karis. Hmmmm...

Iskandar

While I'm not saying it is or it isn't, don't forget that post from nexy essentially said "completely different to other rubbers" - influencing reviews to thing "this is something entirely new!"

Very interesting read indeed. I don't suppose they'd mind if I repost it over on the Karis thread, would they? Darned thing about this is I feel I'm going to have to get a sheet of Karis, just to satisfy my curiosity, and it's not cheap..

I would assume this "Higgs" blade is named after the boson...?

Just bought the Nexy Karis in red to go on the same blade as my Regalis for a direct comparison.

I just realized there are 2 separate threads comparing these rubbers, one entitled Nexy Karis and this one. Haha!

That way you can rubbish karis in this thread, and rubbish regalis in the karis thread.
