Right now I have a mark V rubber and I'm looking to upgrade it to a faster rubber but I sometimes have trouble returning serves therfore I can't get too fast of a ruber, any recommendations?

Hmmm... Mark V isn't exactly slow. Why do you feel you need something faster? What blade do you have it on?

Maybe Mendo? That's supposedly faster than Mark V. Or Sriver? One of the many, many, many XIOM rubbers? Or if you believe all those ads and want something faster yet - Rasant? Oh wait.. that's obsolete (they quit making it). Well, one the softer Rasanters, then.

Or just get some Batwings. Oh wait, that's "slower". Or maybe it isn't...   Or maybe try Big Dipper. That's "fast".

There are a few options. Could check this one out (need to translate):

http://www.tt-spin.de/xiom-vega-intro/

I've tried it. It's a little faster than Mark V on hard shots. But won't help you with your serve returns. Without reverting to a slower/deader rubber that's something only practice will resolve. Maybe you should stick to Mark V until you're happy with all of your strokes? As referred to above the blade may also be a factor to consider.

What blade and thickness of Mark V do you currently have. It's also a contradiction in a way that on one hand you say you need a faster rubber but then can't control serves. This would suggest to me that you are the level of player that doesn't need a faster rubber. Why do you think you do?

I know Mark V is not the slowest of the slow, but to me it feels dreadfully slow compared with Aurus Soft and Karis M. It does encourage a fuller/more active stroke, though. Because nobody likes to be a sitting duck.

Mark V is actually quite forgiving when it comes to handling spin. As the others have said too, a faster rubber is probably going to make this worse, so that might not be a good solution. Until you give us some more information, I don't think we can offer suitable suggestions.

I actually think I'm going to write a rubber recommendation website. It'll ask a few basic questions, and then spit out a suggested rubber. I already know the algorithm, so here's a dry run of the output:

"You should use Joola Energy 325 Soft"

HTH.

I think Butterfly have already done this... the answer is Tenergy, no matter what the question is. A large percentage of players trust it, so it must be right. 8)

I have a more sophisticated algorithm in mind... I wonder if you can guess what it is?

I'm actually semi-serious too.

Is it anything like Iskandars algorithm, I'd expect Sanwei M8 and Batwings might be a common output.

Something faster than MarkV ? hmm :mm: I know Satoshi Aida uses MarkV ! If MarkV is good for an ITTF International Tournaments high-level PRO player ... then it is "fast" enough for us.

Why not just replace the old MarkV with new sheets ?

Also Yasaka released a rubber called Valmo. I don't know if it is like the recent spate of "Intro","Basic" entry-level rubbers, but you could try it and let us all know
