Previously, I was using friendship 755 long pipa on my backhand side with dipper.
Now, having changed the dipper to globe 999 on the forehand side.... the backgand feels different!!!!

The long pips feel less controlled and is feeling faster with a mushy feeling.

Why does this happen?

This has been reported by others as well. Why it happens, I have no idea. Maybe the change on the other side changes the vibration patterns of the blade or something of the sort. And it's not something you can actually measure, though you can feel it.

Been saying that this for years, if you have a sensitive touch you feel it, many reasons for it, the beauty is you never have to give up on a rubber or blade, just swap stuff around!

We know that Brands, varieties, and individual sheets within a variety vary considerably in weight, rebound springiness, and softness/hardness. They vary enough that the racket vibration shock absorption or deadening, the overall weight, balance point, center of mass, and center of percussion, can all change a few millimeters just by gluing on one different sheet, even if that sheet is on the back side and not the one doing the ball contact. Since your hand is very sensitive, you can also feel a sloppy or failed glue job when the rubber is not secure or peeling and flapping a little.

When you change any of those physical things, the "feel" or "feedback" changes because you either dampened or un-dampened the blade, moved the sweet spot very slightly and also the amount of twisting torque from off sweet spot contact will also change because there may now be a slightly different mass at the edges of the racket to oppose or not oppose the twisting.

That's my take anyway ;)

I must admit, with all the variations in rubbers and blades, I usually have no trouble switching between bats as long as the blades are similar even if the rubbers are different. So I can't say I've experienced this phenomenon myself, but after seeing several people say this has happened to them, I'm sure it does. Figuring out why is another thing altogether.. we can guess all we like but knowing is another matter altogether.

Since we're talking about a subjective "feeling" anyway, there is no absolute knowing. Could be a racket feels different because you just fell in love, or because of what you ate for lunch, or because of the subliminal post hypnotic suggestions caused by reading this forum :?:

Falling in love would change your TT stroke !?? Really ??? I hope that is not the case. Imagine playing with an upset tummy or an urgent call of nature while 10-10

Seriously though, the sponge thickness / rubber tension on both sides on the wood blade can "dampen" or maybe "amplify" the vibrations upon contact with the ball ? So with say a very thin PO OX rubber there will be some "unbalanced" vibrations along the blade ? Perhaps ? :-)

What's more apparent to me is when I change the fh inverted, the difference in playing properties on the bh lp ox or 0.5 can be huge, and sometimes it ruins the bh play that more changes are required to "get it back" again!

Sounds like an incentive to buy forehand rubbers in lots of five...
