Gusikoff (No.102) plays very special FH. Still, he is extremally effective vs Reismann's backspin.
Perhaps it will work in modern play as well.

That's the old style hardbat topspin drive. You need to find some old books. Try that with sponge and the ball will end up in the ceiling.

Reisman was mostly an attacking player, but back then everyone had to be good at both.

This link really is great. For those that played table tennis in the 1960s and 1970s, it contains so much fascinating table tennis history. For me, it was very interesting to read about the key role that Bengtsson, Surbek, Klampar and Jonyer played in the development of modern table tennis, especially since I watched these players multiple times, and got to play against, and of course lose, against Surbek. It was also interesting to read about the origin of the loop, and the link to Shibutani's father, which was completely new to me.
