ITTF agrees integrity deal with Sportradar

13 December 2017

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has entered into an integrity partnership with Sportradar.

Under the new deal, the ITTF will be able to utilise Sportradar’s monitoring, intelligence and prevention solutions to help safeguard the sport against match fixing.

Sportradar’s Fraud Detection System will monitor hundreds of matches each year across major ITTF events such as World Table Tennis Championships, Men’s and Women’s World Cup and the ITTF World Tour.

In addition, ITTF can call on Sportradar’s bespoke Fraud Intelligence Unit, where dedicated experts use various tools and processes to develop a picture of those who are looking to enable, organise and finance integrity attacks on table tennis.

“Protecting the sport from such activity is crucial in maintaining table tennis’ position as an exhilarating spectacle and professional sport,” ITTF president Thomas Weikert said.

“We are looking forward to working with Sportradar to keep our sport clean, which is one of the aspects that we pride ourselves on.”

Andreas Krannich, managing director integrity services at Sportradar, added: “Table tennis is a truly global sport, enjoyed in every corner of the globe and fan favourite at every Olympic Games.

“The ITTF have today sent a clear message to their stakeholders and fans: comprehensive and credible protection is now in place to keep the game you love honest; there will be no compromise in this regard.”

Sportradar has similar arrangements in place with a number of other sports governing bodies, including the Asian Football Confederation, which it linked up with last month.

Has match fixing ever been an issue with Table Tennis?

I guess you don't know if you don't check, but at what cost?

Betting ,depending on which country's laws, may be legal or illegal under different conditions.

TT as a sport is too fast and too short in my opinion to clearly fix a match without ppl noticing it.

League events might be fixable to some level, but international sanctioned matches would be too tough.

Anyways TT has a very dark history what with the mafia using it as a cover for things.

Until ITTF starts focussing on professional and technical development of the sport, there will not be as much interest or effort to "corrupt" the game. ITTF is already doing a bang up job of destroying what is left of TT as a sport.

There were rumours that in the past China would order that certain players lose certain matches, but this was more to do with politics and such, not betting.

You mean like how Zhu Yuling lost to Chen Meng in the final of the grand finals? ... Got it.
