I just wrote a very nice message, and then the site falls away.. Anyway. A while ago I came on this forum for the first time initially starting as a modern defender. Because I have noone that has experience with this style, there weren't many possibilities for me to grow with this. I started with a different paddle, I play with heavy spin quite far from the table, but it is just not working for me. I started using the pips again yesterday, and it felt WONDERFUL. It really felt like I was hitting some magical shots. Modern defending is still the most beautiful style, and I would do ANYTHING to get to a high level. And with high I mean high high. I care more about this than anything else in my life. I'm also going to buy a good table and robot for me to non stop play at home. If there is anyone that is willing to help (or whatever it is) me, I would appreciate it unlimitedly much. I can also shoot videos of myself to give a vision. It's my dream and I would do anything for it. I just hope, I hope so damn much...

Aside the robot and a table... a good coach and a club with high level players would be necessary, I think.

Yeah but that is very hard to find here, that's why I'm going to this forum to see if there are people willing to help me on my modern defending dream. Yesterday it went super wonderful. I feel like I played VERY good and I defeated a senior playing at a good level. There is also someone at our club with magnificent tactic and technical skills. I played very good against him too and he said he was surprised. Next year I'm going to university, but maybe I want to take a year off and train non-stop. I could go to several places in the world to acquire training.

What Red Lion said. ;) A coach can be helpful, but isn't necessary. You'll make mistakes along the way though: be open to try and try and see what works and what feels right. If you have a coach, make sure he's aware of the tactical and technical parts of modern defense. A lot of coaches aren't capable of training a modern defender.

Got a lot of great defenders on this forum so put up some videos and you'll get a lot of support here.

Amazing I had a championship today at my second club, and I got first place! I'm very happy! I can't believe how good it is going for only 4 days of playing. I unfortunately have no videos yet

I guess it depends on how high "high high" is... If you're aiming at maybe 1800-1900, or maybe 2000, you could probably get there without a coach. 2500? 2600? I doubt it. But then we're talking about the top 100 players in the US or so.

I still want to make some videos of myself. Yesterday I had a very good training, and it is going very well, according to my feelings. I hope there are still people who want to talk to me, because I'm very serious about this.

What of the quickest ways to learn is from others and their experiences.

You could do a lot worse with your time than read leatherbacks blog "a half year in China, memoirs of a defender" or Def-attacks's "Def-attack's attempts to find balance between defence/attack"
