Blade: Tibhar stratus power wood
FH: Andro rasant 2.1
BH: Donic acuda blue P2 2.0
Hello,

Need help setting up a defensive blade.

Looking at the tibhar defense plus blade

Backhand rubber - donic baracuda or tibhar grass dt ox

Forehand rubber - not sure

Backhand - I chop a lot and loop occasionally, looking for something with great control and spin

Forehand - I generally play slightly more aggressive and loop a decent amount.

Open to any suggestions, thanks for the help!

I've been playing with defensive blades for the past 4 1/2 years. I mainly play a chop block style, with some lefty forehand topspin/sidespin for winners. The past 6 months I was using an HRT Clipper clone, which I loved the speed of kill shots, but wasn't as accurate with my LP chop blocks. I've been visiting my parents in Texas the past week, playing at the places my dad plays at, and using his paddle (the Defense Plus with a soft slow inverted side, and ox long pips). My control is SO MUCH BETTER! I'm stealing his paddle and will dial it in, in preparation for the Nationals in July. Its the slowest paddle I've played (I had one before and gave it to my dad). But against faster players, the control is so much better. The Defense Plus is a 5-ply blade that's flexy. My previous blades, the Andro Fibercomp, and Nittaku Monophonic were stiffer 7-ply blades (which were better for punch blocking). I now appreciate the added control the Defense Plus gives for a defense-based game. Forehand attack, even with a softer rubber (and I'm much more of a hitter than a looper), still seems fast enough to land on the table and get the point. Of course, this only pertains to my level of playing in the 1800-1900 range.

I've used the defence plus extensively over the past 4-5 years. It's terrific value for money. It has some balsa-like characteristic - in that when you hit it it goes fast, despite being a very slow blade. However, for topspins, it's very slow. Good control, but lacks penetration for my game. Nice blade though.

You could go for a thin sponge Yasaka Mark V or perhaps Sriver L for your BH. 1.5 perhaps

For FH there are too many options to think of all depending on your lvl I guess

One comment I'd make - there is a huge difference between having Baracuda on BH vs. Dtecs. These would imply completely different play styles. You probably need to decide on that first.

... a follow up to my post above.
Another week with the Defense Plus and we realized we weren't right for each other.
Went back to my old flame, the Fibercomp, which gave me better speed and accuracy to win points by punchblocking. I did better against the same challenging players than I did with the Defense Plus.
If your going to chop with the Defense Plus, you're going to want a pip with sponge, as the light blade with ox doesn't get the ball back with a good amount of extra effort in your forward swing.
