I gave H2 a go again, this time on my old bat. Removed the FocusII I normally use on my FH.
It plays very differently. At first I was disappointed because it was difficult to keep the ball on the table. I was trying to loop the ball like I normally do with the Focus II, i.e. move back from the table and wait for the ball to sink a little before initializing the loop, starting low about knee height and then lifting the bat up to shoulder height.
However after trying a few different things, I noticed that looping *over* the table in a more horizontal plane produced very good results. The balls would stay on the table, would be fast with plenty of spin.
H2 is definitely a lot spinner than FocusII, which is good for serving. It isn't as good for chopping though.

I think I will try it again at my next training session to see if it still plays the same.

It's quite hard and tacky... unless you glue it up I think it's better close to the table...

the thing i noticed about the hurricane 2/3 is that u play a more horizontal stroke rather than an upward stroke.

Yes that is what I found as well. Play close to the table and the action is more horizontal. More of a top spin drive, than a proper loop.
The sponge is hard, but I think I will give it another go at training and decide whether to keep it or go back to the FocusII

I found my h2 to be too hard too and was about to retire it. Then i prime it by following the priming method loosely. After that my h2 feel much softer and it didn't go into retirement as i first planned. I like it for chops, serves, and loops. You could make spinny loops either fast or slow and at more times surprises the opponent of the amount of spin there is even on seemingly slow loops.

Yes that's what I think... it needs to be glue (or at least primed) to soften the sponge and to make it more lively...

The bluesponge version is superior imo. I haven't tried the nittaku pro versions yet though...

very good close to the table and brush looping(topsheet) with a closed blade works very well, but i found there is no power once you take a step back, basically a sitting duck on what the opponent is giving. Works well against back spin balls. But i stopped trying it since because the rubber tops out early and training with it is a nightmare:-( each shot is different everytime during training plus the sore arm the next day.

I agree with the others though! It plays nice when its heavily glued.

Once you step back you need more swing or a good catapult from the blade. Overgluing the H2 you'll get no advantage in my opinion , because it will be softer and without power.

I think the blade combination is important. I used to use H2 on a very stiff bat and found it totally uncontrollable. The bat I am using now is more flexible and allows me to tame it a bit. I think a flexible bat would suite H2 the best.

Yes I agree...or a blade with a real soft feel helps too.

I don't think using soft blade + hard rubber like H2 you will succeed to sink the ball in the sponge. You will use only the tachiness of the rubber , but not the sponge.

This statement supports what I said before. I am able to do a loop with H2 with an opened paddle at 80 degrees , but using a hard blade

Can anyone suggest similar rubbers to the H2? Possibly lighter. So far, I gather that 729-3 Transcend is most similar; the SP Transcend and SST God-Favored seem to be pretty close.

Maybe something in between H2 and H3?

H2 sponge #19 is similar and lighter.
