Donic News 2012

New DONIC rubber sheets:
Highlight of the DONIC rubber developments 2012 is the new high performance rubber sheet DONIC BLUEFIRE which will be available in three different sponge degrees according to our usual distinguishing system:

¨ Bluefire M1: with a relatively hard blue sponge (47,5°)

¨ Bluefire M2: with a blue medium sponge (42,5°)

¨ Bluefire M3: with a blue soft sponge (37,5°)

The Bluefire M1 will already be available early April.

Any further technical details of the Bluefire, please find in the attached product description.

The former World Champion in double competition, long-time National Team player and DONIC’s product expert Steffen Fetzner describes the features of the Bluefire as follows:

One of the most characteristic features of the new Bluefire obviously is the blue sponge colour. But not only the sponge colour is very special, but also the large-pored structure of the blue sponge.

When playing (in combination with the Bloodwood 5 blade), after a few rallies you’ll immediately notice the high dynamic of this rubber sheet and the pleasant and unique feeling that it creates when hitting the ball.

However, the most distinguishing feature of the Bluefire you can clearly recognize and feel at topspin shots. Above all the Bluefire is unbelievably fast with a characteristic high arc when top-spinning that enables maximum spin and increased speed. From my point of view this top sheet in combination with the new blue sponge creates a perfect symbiosis for a very dynamic and spinny rubber sheet with an increased catapult effect and at the same time with a very high arc.

This means perfectly suitable for top spin players who play either close to the table or from half-distance.

Overview of the new DONIC rubber sheets

· Bluefire M1 red/black 1.8 / 2.0 / max mm

· Bluefire M2 red/black 1.8 / 2.0 / max mm

· Bluefire M3 red/black 1.8 / 2.0 / max mm

· Liga Plus red/black 1.8 / 2.0 mm

Overview of the new DONIC blades

· Waldner Legend Carbon straight, concave

· Baum Esprit straight, concave

· Persson 7 straight, concave

· Ovtcharov Carbospeed straight, concave,

· Wang Xi Dotec Control Plus right, left, straight

· Persson Exclusive OFF straight, concave, anatomic

· Waldner Exclusive AR+ straight, concave, anatomic

· Appelgren Exclusive AR straight, concave, anatomic

For the Waldner Legend Carbon, Baum Esprit, Persson 7 and Ovtcharov Carbospeed blades, mainly Japanese veneers and such ones which are very popular in Asia (e.g. Hinoki or Aramid Carbon) have been used and processed by a “soft” gluing method. Therefore those blades have a very good feel despite the high speed.

The Wang Xi Dotec Control completes the Dotec blade line by a version with very good control. Additionally it’s also available with a straight handle that makes it easier for material players to turn the blade.

Due to their perfect price/performance ratio the “Exclusive” blade series with the options AR, AR+ and OFF is very suitable for offering low-priced complete bats to clubs or beginners in competition table tennis. e.g. in combination with rubbers like Liga, Liga Plus or classic rubbers like DONIC Vario/Vario Soft.

Bluefire is perfectly suited for topspin players? I thought Donic's last big release (MS Traction) had "satellite navigation" built in (their words, not mine)!! Can you really top satellite navigation for a rubber characteristic?!?

I have not played with it, but reminds me a lot of a Primorac Carbon in terms of construction and feel.

I wonder if the persson seven is a rebranding of the persson powerspeed...

The numbers look pretty similar plus the power speed was actually a very good blade. Makes me wish I never got rid of mine.

Haggisv ,

Is the baum esprit limba or koto outer? Does it feel fairly stiff and fast like a tbs /maze or does the 'soft glue' process loosen it up a bit like a waldner senso carbon?

A lot to ask I know from just looking at it and bouncing a ball, but any further info would be appreciated.

I think the outer ply is koto... looks closest to the p500.

The flex feels less than Waldner senso carbon, but probably more than something like the TBS.
The feel is not hard like some of the carbon blade, more like arylate carbon.

What is the blade thickness? I have not played with primorac carbon but would you say it is a very stiff blade without much flex if any? Thanks.

Satellite navigation sounds good, but with a position resolution of 10 cm and a lag of ~100 ms (at best) it is not good enough for TT. I suspect that Donic's tests have shown this.

I further suspect that the bluefire carries what every bat should have (and most of them do): ultrasound navigation.

This is not a review! I had a very brief hit with Bluefire M2 today. I found it had fairly good spin and not a bad softish feel about it but overall was somewhat slow/lifeless/lacking-zing (ie lacking a glue-effect). Is this the opinion of others? Is M3 more lively?

As I said, I only had a very brief hit with the M2 and could easily be way off the mark.
