OOAK Table Tennis Forum

I've been in New York for business since Monday night and got around to dropping in Spin NY. I was impressed by how packed it was there at 6 pm, it must be doing really well, in terms of business. I think they had about 16 tables, most of which were also being used. Mostly recreational players or post-work crowd, but there were a couple of guys playing who were easily over 2000 USATT caliber players.

The food was great, but the place wasn't nearly as friendly as the staff in Milwaukee. It seems like they really catered to the young, hip post-work crowd, which I definitely do not fit. I wanted to get a shirt there, but they don't sell anything above size XL, and there was nothing that you'd really consider to be a shirt that was made for playing in anyway.

It felt a little like when you go to a party where you don't really know many people. Yeah, you're there and it's neat, but you never really feel comfortable. I also think the center court area in Milwaukee is nicer. Maybe I expected too much here.

Anyway, just thought I'd give my impressions. On Tuesday I went to a Mets game at Citi Field (great ballpark!) and Wednesday I saw the musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark", which really won me over. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it!

The days were really busy, class sessions at an Adobe training center. The trainer was good, and we took plenty of small breaks, so the time went by pretty quickly.

Coming back last night was a disaster. First of all, LaGuardia airport is a real turd. No, wait, that would be doing an injustice to turds. My flight was leaving out of Terminal B, which only had a couple of small food stands, and down by our gate there was no air conditioning, only a big fan moving air around. And it didn't look like any updates had been made since the 70s. I've been in airports in the third world better than this.

So I got there a little before 4 pm. My flight was supposed to leave around 6:50. Due to lightning in the area and then problems with the traffic control system on the east coast, I finally got on the plane a little before 10 eastern time. So I had to spend 7 hours in this lousy airport, in quite uncomfortable chairs too. Finally got home around midnight, when I was supposed to be back around 8:15.
