very fast for a chinese rubber, but inconsistent as hell. Theres a lot of variants with different sponges under it. The topsheet in my experience seems to be pretty good.

Yes we used to carry them several years ago, until we realised they don't seem to be official yasaka rubber. As mentioned by lawOCG, there are many variants.... we also had quite a few bad rubbers... gthe quality controlwas not there...

I wrote a little about it here:
Yasaka New Era

I have received mine New Era and if there are copies, there are good copies
Of course, I have to test them but at first sight, they seem to be good (except one is red and I ordered a black one)
I will tell you more if I have the opportunity to test them.

which variant did you get ? for me the best would be the thinner topsheet variants. Like the CJ8000 the topsheet comes in different thicknesses as well as the sponge.

I had the Speed tension New era which was 50#, and that was suprisingly good :)

Copies of what though  ? I didn't say they are bad rubbers... the range just suffers from quality control issues...

I just tested this one out today. Yasaka New Era balance, the quality of course is not Yasaka like... but defintely a very good all around rubber.

Blade used: Persson Impuls AR Offensive Blade (used on a BH) with H3N commercial on the forehand
Topsheet: Mildly tacky, medium soft
Sponge: Tends to crumble even using the sharpest blade, medium hardiness
Throw angle: Low
Speed: Slow on slow stroke, fast on positive stroke (slower compared to Mark V)
Consistency: Better consistency compared to DHS from topsheet to topsheet
Sensitivity to spin: Very low (i have the best service return considering i am playing a almost service genius in our area player)

One thing to note that the setup help me defeat an agressive flat hitting player with near genius level service. All my balls always goes just slightly above the net using the new era rubber and then i can do slow well placed loop wherein he tends to return it high because i always target the elbow zone and then smash it with the H3N.

Bumping old thread...

As I wrote in another topic I recently bought 2 sheets of Yasaka new Era after reading about it on several german forums. It should be great for chopping producing great amounts of backspin. I ordered the 39-41 degree sponge version which apparently is not an official yasaka version. Quality does seem to vary from sheet to sheet, the 2.0 version I ordered was fantastic with a scratch, the 1.5 topsheet was a bit scratched.

However, both version indeed produce an amazing amount of backspin on the defplay senso. This era version to me seems to be 95% the same as the victas 401 rubber. Same sound when hitting a ball, same amazing amount of spin. And same as the victas 401 also lacking a bit on offensive shots. The victas 401 is a bit faster though, I'd say the 2.0 era is the same as the 1.8 victas. I also ordered 2 sheets with 2.2 sponge which will be a bit faster I hope. The 1.5 and 2.0 version are hardly any different, the 1.5 seems to be at least 1.8 sponge.

I would recommend this rubber to anyone looking for a more than decent chopping rubber, price and performance are pretty much unbeatable.

This is the era version I am using: Image

The 2.2 sheets arrived a few days ago and are indeed a bit faster, spin is the same it seems. Only got to test it for a little while, more testing tomorrow.

A friend of mine at the club recently started playing again after 20 years and he bought a sheet of friendship 729 as that is what he used to play with. He was very disappointed with the current friendship 729 rubber(which is indeed nowhere near as good as the dark red/purplish colored friendship from long time ago). He wanted something with more spin and better feel, tried new era 2.0 and bought the sheet from me right away.
