Hey guys,

Butterfly Japan just sent us out a sample of their new plastic 3 star balls. I took some photos so you guys can check them out : )

These were taken on my phone so the quality may not be the greatest, but at least you guys will be able to see:

You are a club in Canada? Do you know if the butterfly new plastic 3* balls are available for retailing?

Important question. Look at the seam of the Btfly 40+. Is it easy to see (as with the Nittaku SHA)? Or do you have to look kind of closely to find it (as with Nittaku Premium Japan40+?)

I was trying to see that from your pictures but on my monitor can't tell.

Also, how does the bounce height of the Btfly ball compare to the two Nittaku balls?

I think Bijou is in Victoria, Australia, NOT Canada. He may even be in Melbourne, the Victorian capital city.

Thanks for the pictures Bijou!

I would love to hear how they bounce and play.

Does anyone know which Chinese company makes the Butterfly balls?

Ah yep, I'm in Victoria in Australia. : )

I'll get you guys some more details regarding the balls over the next few days - we have an Olympic level player testing one out at the moment.

In terms of the details about the seam I must admit I didn't check them that closely. I'll have a closer look tomorrow when I'm at work and let you know.

I just got one of these balls. THe bounce is very similar to the Nittaku SHA 40+. I only have a single ball to review, not a packet yet.

Baal: The seam is quite easy to see, significantly darker.

Bijou: Can you check for the date code on the packet for these balls please? It will be something like XFAD.

I just got my new scale is as well, so I'll be posting some weights of the various balls.

Bummer. I was hoping they would bounce higher. Sounds like they just another one of the gazillions of Chinese seamed balls. Can't say I'm surprised but I was hoping that would have gotten better.

Apologies for the late reply, but the code you want is XIAD

Bad news for anyone thinking that Chinese seamed ball makers may have figured some important stuff out in recent months. Low bounce still in balls made in September. Ouch.

Personally I'm still holding out for the Japanese Made Nittaku Plastic balls. Regardless of the cost I think they're going to be the best by a long shot if the demo they sent us is anything to go by.

The September ball batch of Butterfly features an improved plastic formula.
The Youth Champs is now on in Shanghai and it employs those Butterfly plastics.
According to the responses from Kirill Gerassimenko, a player-participant of Khazakstan crew, everyone is happy about the ball:
--breackage nearly zero, great tangibility on hitting the ball, ball control gets very good in every strokes.

Too expensive to buy, not good for practising the ball daily. Harsh pricing policy by Butterfly.

Yes, I have a bunch, they play great, but not real durable. I still prefer the good seamless balls, but also like the Nittkau Japan a lot.

I got to hit with one today. Sorry, no. Still the same Chinese seamed garbage.
