Well, I don't know if it's the right section to talk about that. If no, I ask sorry.
Recently I'm trying to play with a balsa def blade + anti and long pips.
The bat in the specific is:
giant dragon balsa def
giant dragon soft anti 1.5 mm
giant dragon talon OX

The idea was to play mainly passive defense, mid-long range chopping, being patient, steady.
I think that twiddling the bat during a point is a consistent part of this style, chopping one time with anti and one time with long pips both fh and bh. It's really fun or at least I found really fun to do.
I'm having only a little reflection about a thing.
The talon ox side of my bat is way too fast and lively, in comparison to the soft anti side, which is highly slow and dead.
Those pips are like little trampolines but I love them for the reverse and deception.
The soft anti is slooow but it has enourmus control and insensibility to spin that I love.
In theory I think that the difference in terms of speed between the two sides of my bat is necessary, for varing the pace of my chops. But, in pratice, sometimes this difference puts me in a trouble.
So my question: do you think that a slower pips, or a faster anti, would be better?
Or I have only to pratice and pratice again?
Are there other players using anti + long pips?
Feel free to share thoughts.
Thank you.

I think that you should not change rubbers, just keep practicing!

It is nice to hear about your original style. so many different styles can work well with practice.

Keep on trying!

And...I liked your video.

Yes indeed, it would be wise not to change equipment too soon. As you said yourself, the variation in pace can be really tricky for your opponent. Now, it is only a matter of eliminating the trickiness for yourself  so take your time to practice and to see all possibilities.

If you want to test new set-ups, you could consider keeping your current one as 'main blade' and buying a second blade to experiment with on occasions.

BTW, I know a guy who plays at highest regional level here in Belgium (C0, USATT 2300+) with the combination anti + LP, don't know what exactly, he changes regularly but he can play with anything... He has one of the strangest playing styles I have ever seen and VERY tricky (read: frustrating) to play against...

Here's example video of player from my team who use on his backhand Donic Anti Classic 1.5mm black color and TSP P-1R 1.1mm on his forehand red color. He is older player with mustache  in red t-shirt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tuBmr14RmA

How do you play against players who serve short and just block or soft roll back?

Thank you glennholder and Pipsy for your thoughts.
Yes, I will keep this set-up, keep praticing.
My main set-up was the one in my signature that I use for modern defence (or at least I try to).
I think that modern defence is the way to go if u are ambitious in defense.
But... yes... this new combination makes me happy for its forgiveness, being able to handle easier any kind of spin that coming back to me, especially for serve return and fh chop.
No dubt that a part of the fun is to see my opponent's reactions when I play well.
Especially if he/she is an emotional person.
...And here in my club and in the whole Italy there are a lot of emotional players (to punish with chops  ) but very very few good defenders (unfortunately :?: ).
-Djuka I like the video, I think that the ser has a good backhand attack... but I haven't seen him twiddle, he don't?
-Vanjr I think that the answer is: if he can put 10 balls in, I have to put in 11 (maybe this is the best answer to all in table tennis lol). Patience, accuracy, placement and variations are the keywords for me.

:Chop:

I dindn't think so much spin generation was possible from anticlassic in the right hands, it basically seems an old style inverted defensive rubber... very interesting

From my experience, Donic Anti 40, don't know the classic one, is not an anti as we call Butterfly Super Anti.

It just a ridiculously slo~w sponged soft and untacky top sheet normal inverted rubber.
