Lets say you go for a big loop, and the ball drops right off your bat. You inspect your bat, and there's a clear round wet patch.
Is it a let, or do you lose the point since the point is over?

Let. At least that's the opinion generally followed in my club. It happens occasionally and seems only fair....except when it hits pips it leaves no evidence.....which then is unfair to pips players.

This happened in one of the T2APAC matches (JSH vs Timo Boll). Iirc the ruling was let.

No let as far as I'm concerned, especially if playing against a big sweater. Where did the water come from, might have dropped from their hair. In my club we have enough trouble with lets with balls flying everywhere to worry about other things like that. We'd be there all night. :o :o

If the ball was wet........not sure, part of the game I'd say, though doesn't Ovtcharov put a new ball in his mouth to clean off all the new ball dust? Let for sure on that one.

read through this - quite a balanced view. Basically, if the ball was wet, and it affected the outcome, it should be a let. If the player's bat is wet, it wouldn't be.

I call a let for a wet ball if umpiring. If I am playing, and the opponent is affected by a wet ball, and the umpire doesn't call a let, I concede the next point.

Yes I would agree with that... a wet bat is the player's responsibility, so the umpire will need to decide whether to play a let or the player with the wet rubber lose the point.

Regarding a wet ball, we've always accepted this it be part of the game, so if you missed the table because of a wet ball, you'd still lose the point. However technically I think it should be a let, if you can show clear evidence to the umpire.

No, it should be a let. It's too easy to "accidentally" wet the ball on your forearm before serving.

Bet you've never had to play in the rain...
