Arranged draws? That's what I read into his words (or the translation).

As far as I can make out, there was some skullduggery going on to avoid all-Chinese final, by making them meet in earlier rounds. I could have got the wrong end of the stick though.

Seems the ITTF must do some draw juggling after the draw is set for the purposes of who knows what (making a better match from form players?)... which must irk players including ZJK. I know I've had it done to me even in Vets (had a player slotted in as a late entry where I was no.1 seed, and player being underrated put me out in 1st round)...and it was pretty unfair.

I agree, seeding should be done on merit only, and it's unprofessional to try and influence it just to try and get the chosen people into the finals.

I don't know. It seems fairly common in other sports - when I was flying model airplane competition we'd set up a knock-out pyramid so that team-mates were on opposite sides of it so that they didn't have to fly against each other until the very last rounds. It was really awkward if they were pitting for each other and had to find other pitmen. I always assumed in international table tennis you'd at least distribute the unseeded players from the same country into different groups so that they didn't have to play against each other until at least the later rounds. It sounds like Zhang Jike is complaining against the opposite of this, though - that the Chinese players were put on the same side of the draw so that they both wouldn't reach the finals.
