NEOTTEC Tokkan

Sergei Petrov, managing director of the Russian TT Shop (Moscow) Vista Sport has kindly provided two sheets of this long pips rubber. I have tested the covering with the soft 0.6 mm Japanese sponge on a Yinhe T-4.

Mass
Length: 169 mm, width: 169 mm, Weight: 30 grams;
Pips diameter: 1.5 mm, Pips length: 1.55 mm, Aspect ratio: 1.03;
Geometry: horizontal, Distance between the pips: 1.5 mm, Surface: structured;
Grip of the surface: 34° (medium grippy), Grip of the necks 42° (very grippy), Grip average: 38° (very grippy);
Pips hardness: 89/100 (inelastic);

Striking is a great grip, the relatively wide spacing between the pimples and the inelastic necks. The covering is relatively unique and comparable only to the Nimatsu Zerberus or the FS Kokutaku 755. Harde pimples are usually favorable for close to the table game and wide spacing of the pimples rather for the half distance.

The covering fits with thin sponge on a fast blade (OFF) with a hard touch, such as the Yinhe T-4.

Destroying Game (90)
Chop block (88): The covering makes a good spin transmission, produces a good length and good placements at medium speed.
Pushing (91): Very fast bounce when pushing actively and very controlled with drop shots. Placements go well and the throw is flat.

Block and counter attack (92)
Block, counter and flip (93): Very flat throw, high tempo, good length and placement characterize this stroke. The stroke must be played active in this distance.
Topspin on table (90): The balls have due to the grippy pimples a good rotation, length, and a flat trajectory.

Attack from the half distance (92)
Drive (93): This is really a very powerfull stroke that will probably lead often to direct points. The pace is high and the throw is flat. The good pace of the Yinhe T-4 is supporting this stroke.
Topspin (90): The throw is still flat, the rotation is good and the control starts at this distance to suffer a bit.

Defense (91)
Defense with little wrist (91): Good spin, flat throw and a slightly reduced control.
Defense with lot of wrist (90): Good spin, flat throw and a slightly decreased control.

Conclusion
Block, counter attack and drive are the strengths of the covering. Push is dangerous too and even the short topspin go surprisingly well. I would recommend the rubber on a very fast and hard wood with a blocking game. Overall, this was once again a true highlight for a close to the table game and suitable for people who play with little wrist.

Martinspin,

Thanks for your review. This rubber seems interesting for an agressive player at the table.
Do you know where it is possible to purchase it? A friend could be interested in this new rubber.

Thanks for your answer.

Cheers,
Ma'man

Anyone ever try this rubber in OX?

The text on tabletennis11.com makes it sound pretty good. The $25.50 price would be reasonable if it's a great long pip.

Quote:
Following the ban of the so called slippery long pimples rubber, lots of players started to look for the equal substitution – to make life harder for their opponents. NEOTTEC long pimpled experts developed TOKKAN rubber with thin and very elastic pimples. Blocking near the table or effective chop defense far from the table is not only dangerous for the opponent, but more importantly is astonishingly easy for you to play, when using TOKKAN.

The Tokkan is a really underestimated long pips rubber for offensive pips players. :)

You used it with sponge. Since it's been tempting me on tabletennis11.com, I was just wondering what it plays like in OX. Speed, spin reversal, etc...
