SpinLord Dornenglanz
Speed 4.5 | Disruption: 10 | Control: 7

TTDD says the design is based off of an inverted rubber (Spinlord Marder). The rubber compound is the same (ie very soft and elastic) and the sponge (soft and slow). Pips are very grippy, even slightly sticky. They claim it's "by far the best" all-around LP for block, chop and attack. Faster than Zeitgeist and Stachelfeuer in OX. For players who make active strokes.

Good video, but when you're chop-blocking that hard, I think you'll get heavy reversal of any LP.

I played Badman/D.TecS/Dragon Talon/Meteorite Soft/Long Soft lately, and with DornenGlanz I had the best spin reversal by chop blocking against topspin.

Compared to the 'old' D.TecS the reversal is similar, but the DornenGlanz has no 'flummy'-feeling. The Pimples are definitely harder than the above, but almost sticky.

Here my statement on noppen-test (sorry for some strange words, im not very firm in english table tennis expressions):

Short characteristic of near-table-chop-blocking on an original sized NSD:
  • Harder impact compared to Badman/D.TecS/Meteorite Soft/Long Soft/Dragon Talon because of absent adhesive foil, very thin ground sheet and harder pimples
  • Medium slow speed, flat descent
  • No 'flummy', it is possible to slow down fast topspins even at frontal impact, thus we get reliable emergency blocks
  • Very good spin reversal at chop-blocking, even topspins with strong spin are easy to chop
  • But by feeling it feels less grippy than Badman because it feels harder and straighter - but this fools
  • Insensitive against spin, easy service return
  • Very good placement, especially offensive against backspin
  • But less inconveniant and dangerous than Badman/D.TecS (this said my opponents), but nevertheless very effective because of security and backspin

Altogether:
The DornenGlanz is a very good controllable chop-block-pimple without deficiencies and more spin reversal against topspins than comparable pimples. Some testers additionally mention very good defense skills, but I dont practice distance defense.

I have additional videos from the following training match, but this has to be cut and uploaded first. Dont know when I'll find time ... ;)

Oh damn, there it is again, EJ EJ EJ. How does it perform when pushing aggressive against backspin, and how much do topspin bite on a handhold block, IE with no chopping motion? How do it compare to D.Tecs in these areas? These are two areas that D.Tecs, IMHO, is superior in and it's because of that I'm choosing to play with D.Tecs at the moment. I would think that a sticky and hard LP would be more spin sensitive, especially when playing against backspin.

But Haggisv, that's why it's called chop-block ! I think he has really nice chop-block, not this semi-passive block called chop-block :)

Nice demo but too single-purpose. Would love to see how it performs chopping off the table and executing topspin BH drives..

Comparison between 'new' D.TecS, 'old' D.TecS and DornenGlanz, ">" means better or more:

Speed: old>new>DG
Control: DG>old>new
Chop-Block-Backspin: DG=old>new
Emergency blocks: old=DG>new
Disturbing effect: old>DG=new
Spin sensitivity: new>old>DG
Push against backspin:DB>new>old

This valuation is based on using an original sized Nittaku Shake Defence with Yinhe Apollo on forehand.

If this really is the case, when applying my technique too, I will really like this LP! I went ahead and ordered one from Japsko since I really liked Zeitgeist, the problem though was that D.Tecs gives much more disturbing effects and reversal compared to Zeitgeist, it also grips a lot more when pushing aggressively against backspin.

What I don't understand is how Dornenglanz can give so much reversal and be so spin-sensitive when the surface is claimed to be sticky(?) and grippy, especially when the pips are hard.
