The Dornenglanz feels the slowest and least bouncy... so easy to take the pace off. Desperado would have to be the best for passive blocking. Dtecs is softer than most, which I still find to be the most effective for handling slower and no-spin balls, as it's easier to brush with.

MY EJing is continuing. I have just recieved a sheet of ox in red. Now I'm thinking about a blade to match up with it

Thanks, MNNB and Haggisv, for the useful information. I'm rather caught in the middle between Desperado and Dornenglanz, with perhaps the nod going to Desperado, based on MNNB's comments. I hate dropping another $50.00, but there is always hope that it will be well worth it.

Same for me, I have 3 DGornenglanz and I've never had broken pips.

I think it's accurate to say that some LP players break pips while others do not. If you've broken pips on other LPs in the past, chances are that Dornenglanz will not be a good choice for you. If you've never broken pips then you'll probably be OK with Dornenglanz. As most here already know, I tend to break pips early and often, and Dornenglanz was one of the weaker LPs I've used in this regard. Search OOAK for "Nathanso's LP Graveyard" if you're interested in all the morbid details. I'm EJ'ing through fewer rubbers these days, finding 755 OX to be both effective and durable for my style of play.

Nathanso: curious after your GD cropcircles review how you compare the CC, Dornenglanz and 755 OXs for your specific style of play (presume CTTable, attack). Txs.

Well, I broke down and bought another sheet of Dornenglanz. It just worked too well for me when I used it, to not give it one more chance. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this sheet will be more durable than the last one. Got it slapped on a BBC 9-10-9. I'll give it a workout tonight with the robot, and maybe with a few humanoids.

Well, after about 3 hours of playing with members of our club, I am really excited to be reunited with the DG once again. It is absolutely the best LP I have found to hit the punch/scoop shot against backspin. It really reverses the spin (or continues it, however you want to say it), and allows one to turn the opponent's pushes into fast, low, and deep topspin balls. This is probably my number one shot for setting up my offense--hitting one of these shots wide to the angles or into the opponent's body. The control is outstanding. I do have to learn all over again the proper strokes for hitting, but it appears that I can counterdrive topspin with this rubber--although not consistently yet. Lots of robot work needed so that I can hit strokes with confidence. Sorry I didn't take your advice, MNNB, and go with the Desperado--I just decided to go with what I KNEW worked for me in the past.

Is DG any good for chopping, or is it a blockers pip ?
I am really interested in this pip, but need your opinion on it !

I find that it chops pretty well even in Ox (i've never used it with sponge). I think it chops about the same as Talon. On the other hand I never could do a decent chop with Pogo. I think the difference is that LPs with stiff, hard pips like Pogo are more for hitting and blocking. Talon and Dornenglanz pips are more flexible so can chop better. But then that makes them harder to hit with. No LP does it all and you just need to keep trying until you find one that works for your style.

BTW, I've just switched over on my spare blade to Grass DTecs. I shied away from those for a long time because I read that they were hard to control. Finally I decided to try the DTecs and it seems much better suited for my particular game and blade (GD Kris Special). I can hit, block, and still get a halfway decent chop if forced back off the table.

PRW let me have a hit of his red ox Dornenglanz on his Hallmark Ultra blade tonight.

My impression is the reverse spin is off the charts good.

The deflection off the rubber is so low.

Hard to hit a shot with this rubber that goes high over the net and hits the table.

On opponents high shortish balls this rubber is devasting for attacking with.

If opponent keeps the ball low over the net,there is not sufficient grip to loop or counterloop opponents topspin with.

Adding a thin sponge could make this rubber a lot better for attackers.

Got the feeling this rubber in ox could be perfect for choppers.

Had another hit with this red ox Dornenglanz on very quick Hallmark Ultra blade.

Don't think this rubber is for me in ox anyway,just too difficult to use on the attack.

A friend used it for first time chopping on b/h with it,and i can say it's very difficult to play against.

It was not that the ball was wobbling at all,it was the slide/down effect he was getting.Never experienced that before against a chopper. High easy looking balls to my f/h which i thought i could kill easily,i put many in the net.

For choppers this has to be the rubber.
