There seem to be 2-3 variants of Palio CK531A -

I don't know what the difference it...

Also, I'm not getting whether I should opt of OX, or a thin sponge (0.5mm - 0.8mm)

Blue - hardest

Yellow - medium most preferred

Green - softest would probably be good

I have the yellow OX which plays good

Dr Neubauer Super Block or Hallmark Original ... Unfortunately not legal :rofl:

For me Grass Dtecs OX for blocking.

Yep... that's what the general consensus seems to be ...

Sadly, @ over $40, D.tecs is, way out of my budget...

Here's a couple of extra options:

Joola Badman plays similar to D'Tecs, it has slightly better control and is marginally slower but unfortunately its the same price as D'Tecs.

TSP Curl P3@R is good for passive blocking. It is a slow, low grip soft pip for close to the table play. $35 AUD at Ooak shop.

Spinlord Dorneglanze after it's worn in is also good for passive blocking, however it is somewhat hard when brand new.

Try Dawei388D and you may be surprised how good it is at passive blocking. It has smooth pimple tops, low grip and slow. Chops very good and is cheap as chips too :up:

Sponged or OX, on a Defplay Senso V3 ?

Also, I hear the 388D sponge has some dampening effect - Is that true ?

I find the OX version offers good absorption/dampening effect as the pips are quite soft and bend very easily when blocking strong attacks. :up:

I quite often use it on a spare setup and find it very effective in passive blocking against strong attacking opponents. Chops like a dream too :D

I've been playing, very regularly, with a 388D-1 ox on a Defplay V3, for the past 6-7 months or so.. until 2-3 months back, I used to clean the pips side, just as I would do with the inverted side, simply with the intension of keeping it clean... However, after I've stopped cleaning, and due to usage, the rubber looks kind of worn-out, and I now feel, it's playing characteristics have changed; whereby I feel it's become better for passive blocking.. IOff-late, several players, with whom I've been playing very regularly since I've transitioned to this long pip, have commented that the ball behaves quite weirdly, when it's returned with the 388D-1

So, would I be correct in assuming that a dusty, worn-out 388D-1ox would behave like a 388D ox ?

Still more effects with 388d and a bit slower/less spin sensitive, difference is not massive but was enough in matchplay to mean win or loss in a tight game (for me anyway)

Hello from Romania , i am push blocker and for passive blocks SpinLord Dornenglanz is the best on plastic balls. I also recomand Dr Neubauer Desperado 2 wich ia very good at passive push blocks. But... anytime is a big but...you need to be agrresive in play with plastic balls!!

There is a version of 388D called Grass 20 or similar. That one has a grey dampening sponge. The ”normal” version of 388D does not have a dampening sponge.
