I tend to attack too much, needed to chop and push more, guy I was facing (glasses) was about 1800, I was 1581, pips are red. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqc2roIY3y4 Hard to film with a stationary, cheap camera. |

You look pretty good there (and I'd put you above your current rating  ). Not sure if I 100% agree that you should attack less - kind of depends whether you are talking about this specific opponent or in general. Playing style is a rather personal choice, and you need to have a certain mindset to play defensively, IMHO - you looked eager to attack, I thought. |

I've used KTL Stranger 1.2mm and your video reminded me of its bounciness (for a sponged LP) which isn't surprising being that it's just about the thickest -- and easily most aggressive -- sponge you can get on an LP. Based on your playing style, i.e. close to the table; blocking; pick-hitting, I think you'd do better with OX LP.. something like Talon OX that would provide safe(r) serve returns while also forcing occasional pop-ups that you could attack with your big FH. In contrast, your Stranger 1.2mm had you making the pop-ups which your opponent was capitalizing on. |

Thanks for the follow up posts, I have tried Ox long pips in past with bad results but as a fellow EJ I'm always willing to punish myself more. Any leads on where I can buy Talon Ox online? I have a sheet of Milkyway 955 .7mm sponge arriving Wednesday which I ordered from Amazon. In 2007 I broke 2003 for one tournament, currently rated 1731. Tried Aggressor and KO for about a year, now back long pips, DHS C8 1.0mm. I picked C8 because it is a faster long pip and the Dr. Neubauer medium pips are definitely a lot faster than most long pip rubbers. Curious side note about the Dr. Neubauer brand, they produce so many anti rubbers, that must sell but I haven't seen any frictionless anti players in California or Michigan. I should probably pose that observation in the Anti rubber section. Pips for all! |

OP is talking about lack of frictionless anti players in CA and MI, I believe, and these are still legal (by some logic which I don't fully comprehend - LPs are bad, but anti is not?). |

Yep, I was referring to not seeing any, low, medium, or high players in this country playing with frictionless Anti's. My student pretty much retired after frictionless pips ban so I remember that event well. My luck, I've always played with grippy pips so the ban didn't effect my game much though I believe a less severe rule would have served just as well. |
