Just out of curiosity, which one of these would be the best for chopping? I know these aren't chopping pips but I just wanted to know for the record.

C8 is a true long pip, C7 is actually a medium pip (even though it says long on its packaging).

C8 is a bit better for chopping, but as you have acknowledged neither are great for it.

Well depends on what you mean by "chopping". I play with C8 (1mm sponge) on matsushita pro blade and I play defensively. C8 don't generate underspin on its own so when I play close to the table I usually twiddle and generate underspin with inverted or make no-spin balls with C8. But when I play in mid distance, C8 is great for defending (chopping, spin reversal, etc), I even liked it more than feint long series for that matter. Tried C7 once too, but it didn't feel as good.

c8 chops better without the fast sponge imo

on my dhs i lost a pip every day for a month until it was unplayable. I asked a dhs distributor and he said yea its too soft. I didnt notice that it was soft but will never buy c8 again,

Yes C8 is not that soft.. the C&F III is softer.

I second this ive used both and C&F 3 is better for chopping but beware its a fast pip

I just discovered C7 and put it on my old 032 blade. It's a lot of fun!!! I love the contrast between 651 2.2mm and C7 1.0mm! The loud cracking block has this awesome smacking sound and hard fast and flat blocks against looping topspin makes this a winner for me. I'll be stocking up on this rubber.

In my opinion C8 is more soft than Cloud & Fog. We compare them last week on the same blade ( DEF + ) , and I am sure that C8 is softer than cloud & fog 3. It is of course only my opinion but for the plastic balls I think C8 is a little bit more difficult for the oponent than cloud & fog 3.

Very interesting. I am about to do some tests of C8 and C&F3 with and without sponge, so interested in your experiments too.

I shall report back with findings.

Re the original (and ancient) question, I used C7 a long time ago, when I was a much weaker player. I agree with people who would categorise it as more of a MP than an LP. I didn't get on with it at all, but I've not tried it since, and I don't plan to.
