Post subject:  advice for picking lp rubber
Hi all, I'll keep it quick and simple, I'm looking for a backhand lp rubber that can replace my current lp

- Currently use kumpuru fl blade, neo hurricane f/h and friendship 837 b/h
- I block, counterattack and hit mainly
- I never chop and never topspin with my b/h
- Under 30$ price range

I was thinking about dawei 388d-1 (0.6mm or ox?), cloud and fog III (ox?), but I'm not even sure what sponge I should be going for and what styles they suit. Are they defensive/chopping rubbers? Is sponge/no sponge better for attack/blocking?

What rubbers would you recommend to fit this play-style, and what sponge length would you recommend for this play-style?

A few questions so we can help you out further:
- How long have you been playing with long pimples?
- Which sponge thickness are you currently using?

388d-1 could work for you. As far as I know, blocking does work relatively well with this LP.
Bomb talent might also be an option for you, however this rubber is more difficult to control. Disturbing for the opponent close to the table, or more for you depending on your experience :lol:
Dornenglanz can also be used close to the table. One of the most dangerous LP's, though durability might be below average.

All are available in ox.

For blocking, sponge definitely does not help increase reversal.

I've been playing for a few years with the 837. The 837 is 1mm.

I'm open to the idea of OX but I'm also looking for some counter-attacking capabilities, and I don't want to slow down my bat too much (which I heard OX does). What are your thoughts on 0.6mm? Do you think that would be good for blocking but also offer some counter-attacking potential?

Also, thoughts on CTT National Pogo? Apparently it can block and hit decently at 0.6mm

Hmm jumping right from 1mm to ox is quite an adjustment...
I believe Pogo is no longer on the LARC. Next to that, I unfortunately have never played with this pip.

Ck531a 0.6mm could work for you. I only tried that one in ox.

Have used Pogo in 0.6mm. Very good for hitting and blocking. Unfortunately no longer on LARC. Also used Palio Ck531a in Ox. Both pips are a bit on the fast side. The Pogo was easier for attacking but the Palio was more versatile.

If you wanted to make a small step, you could try Friendship 755. It's similar to the 837, but a little more disturbing for the opponent. 388 D-1 is a good inexpensive pip. Might be a little more difficult to counter attack with, but attacking under spin is very good.
What you will find is there is always a trade off with long pips. Sponge can for some people help with control and add some speed for attack, but the pips effect is less. Want a pip that's great for hitting and blocking? It won't be as effective in defense.
I've never used it, but I think some folks like the Der Materialspezialist Kamikaze for this type of game. Sauer & Troger Hellfire X also. But they might be more than $30.
If your style is block, counter attack and hit, have you considered trying a medium or short pip? 837 with sponge would play more like a medium pip already. You could get some Friendship 802 and give that a try. Spinlord Keiler is another good option to try.

I was probably thinking of getting 388d-1 with 0.5mm sponge, but I've heard it's more defensive and less for blocking and hitting? I don't want to chop much if not at all. Could I still use 388d-1 for a decent aggressive blocking play-style?

388d (smooth tips on pips) is more for defense and 388d-1 (textured tips on pips) is more for attacking and blocking. 388d is very good for passive blocking. Consider Friendship 755 (original) as that is pretty good too for hitting and blocking. Try both 388d-1 and Friendship 755 as they are both cheap.

I found 388d-1 easier to use and more effective than 837 in ox versions.
388d-1 in 0.5 is a great allround pip for what you describe
