I found that a hard sponge on the fh speeds up the pips and it also worsens the dampening effect. However,a soft sponge improves the performance and the dampening effect on the pips.

Also,I found that the blade may change the theory around..... A stiff blade pairs well with a soft sponge so the combination would be soft sponge in the fh but a flexy blade can pair well with a hard sponge, then, you can use a hard sponge on the fh, with little negative effect on the pips .

Agree?
