Of course, I know they are banned. But I saw a discussion on another board that suggested putting crazy glue on the end tips of long pips would turn them into “frictionless long pips.”

I never had the chance to play with them, and honestly, I’m just curious as to what they were like, and what got them banned. Were they really that disruptive?

Thanks

Neubauer briefly released a non-ITTF approved FLP a few years ago. I found it to be a lot less disruptive when using the larger, slower, less spinny plastic ball. In my opinion, pips with some friction are better under the current conditions.

Thanks. Are the Gambler long pips of pretty good quality? Question for anyone.

Returning to the topic of this thread, does anyone know what process manufacturers actually used to create frictionless long pips?

Epoxy coating.

Epoxy coating.

So they would basically put a coating of epoxy on the pips? How long would this last? Rephrasing: how long many hours would these pips hold up...and will they work effectively on the new balls?

The original frictionless pips (introduced by Neubauer when he started winning all the senior tournaments) was indeed long pips with a dab of epoxy applied to the tips of the pips. These days it would be easier to do, I think, since there are a lot of UV-cured epoxies available on, say, Amazon. No mixing needed.

TIME IS THE BEST TREATMENT.
Manika Batra is known to use heavily worn-out rubber on backhand, on purpose. The rubber went near frictionless with time. Clever one she is, indeed.

However,if you are not Manika Batra and you use a "very old, worn-out rubber on backhand, on purpose",which went near frictionless with time, then, the run of the mill amateur player is spurned .

This is reality!!! Who, in their sound judgement, really believes that Manika is using the same rubber anyone buys at a TT online shop?....... some still do !!!!

Honestly it doesn't look that old. Not showing much wear at all.
