I lost three pips and I have been wondering which the limit is to be able to play legally in a sanctioned tournament or league .

I also wonder if there is a difference about the place in the rubber ,that is, whether the pips fall off at the edge or in the center .

Thanks a lot !!

I think logic would say it is illegal as soon as there is a missing pip at the start of a match. (any pip not at the edge of the blade)

Thanks for reminding me of something I disliked about using LP.

With all due respect, logic is not at stake here.I need to know what the rules say about this.I think you can still play with some missing pips .

I need to know the exact number because I believe there is some tolerance about this, especially in lower leagues .

ITTF INSTRUCTION FOR ALL UMPIRES.

An instructive document ITTF HMO teaches as follows:
7.4 THE RACKET Damage
-- A racket should be considered legal for using unless it loses uniformity of pimples over a significant part of the surface.

Those proficient umpires would apply a plastic card with a rectangle aperture of 1 sq cm. Any part of the playing surface must have at least 10 undamadged pimples per sq cm.

Be happy.

The popular notion with common people that the lack of a single pimple would make racket illegal is a misconstrue of the Rules and should be ignored anyway.

From this information we assume that 3 missing pips do not make the racket illegal .

Thanks :)

I think that's right, but it's really up to the umpire/referee of the day to interpret the rules, and there are NO specific rules on missing pimples, only guidelines.

If I was missing 3, I would keep using it, unless they were all next to each other. Once you start losing pips, it's time to change anyway, as many more are likely to break soon.

Very good advice.
