Butterfly has a new LP coming out called "Magnitude." Don't know anything about it except that Richard McAfee is already using it. McAfee is an at-the-table blocker who is rated at near 2300 even though he's pushing 60 and can barely walk so this might be an interesting rubber. It's included on List 29B. Anyone heard anything about it?

There's a long list of pretty much unknown long pips for EJs to try. I count nearly two dozen, including Amsir Flutter, Amsir Sensation, Amsir Surprise, Avalox Mo, Bomb Talent, Champon Flash, RITC 755-2, Giant Dragon Meteorite, Giant Dragon Giant Long, GKI Nano Sting, Guoqiu MG, Guoqiu MG II, Japtec DL-01, Lion Claw, Nexy Chaos, Nimatsu Zerberus, SE7EN 7.01 I, Spintech Konfuze, Spintech Stealth, and Xiying 979.

And this doesn't even include Hallmark Friction Super Special, Hallmark Friction Special II, TTMaster Fireproof, Butterfly Magnitude, TSP Curl P-H, Xushaofa 989 or the mysterious Armstrong Twister.

To be honest I'm not too bothered.

TSP P-H will be interesting. That aside there are many 'look alikes' in pips so a new pip from a different manufacturer is not necessarily new.

A new pip from TSP is different because they have most of the range covered so when they say its new it'll certainly be different.

TSP P-H has got to be a close to the table rubber. The P3 cover this area but I suspect P-H will have harder yet thin pips to generate more reversal.

The major recent innovations were anti-tops which proved uncontrollable and very slow sponge which is developing something of a following. If very slow sponge becomes too popular however ITTF will start regulating sponge.

One of us is confused. Butterfly magnitude was one of the first medium pips ever, came out like 20 years ago. I think this is the same stuff. Used by top u.s. female chopper In Sook Na/Bhushan for years. Richard has been using frictionless before the rule change, I've seen video that makes it very clear. The listing of him as using magnitude goes back to before the friction rule. Either he used magnitude before hallmark or dr N frictionless or it's purely butterfly listing a sponsored player using their rubber on both sides no matter what the facts are.

I'm sure you're right. I was just looking at the ITTF list and noticed that they had Magnitude listed as an LP, which I had never heard of. On the Butterfly site they list McAfee as playing Magnitude, although that rubber isn't available. I knew he was playing frictionless previously, so I incorrectly assumed Butterfly must be coming out with a frictionless replacement. Thank you for clearing it up and sorry for the false alarm.

I see exciting times ahead!

I've played with (and reviewed) the Avalox Mo. I'll get samples of the Giant dragon ones when they're available... All the others will have to put on my wish list

Yes, that's me
I tried the Palio this week but didn't like it nearly as much as Insider
I played against a strong looper and had trouble keeping the ball from flying off the table.

Does it play as if it's frictionless/treated ? Did you get the sponge off ok or play with it? This might be my next rubber after Insider and Super D go down the ittf tubes.

It didn't feel like it was treated at all and had a lot less control than Insider.
