Post subject:  BALL SHAKES LIKE PHANTOM- Yasaka Phantom 008 review.
I have recently switched from my P1R to 1.0 Yasaka Phantom 008. The pips are on a toxic 3 blade, playing a pressure orientated modern defensive game. Here is my impressions on various strokes.

Hits: Not so much my forte. However, is quick enough and direct enough to put away a high, tight serve close to the net. Slow, but that may be because of the blade its on.

Chops: Good control, even better variation. By changing the amount of wrist I use, I can very the backspin from Kenny G heavy to Black Sabbath heavy. Good directional control, still working on consistantly keeping the ball deep in the opponent's court. I think this is as much the blades function as the pips themselves.

Blocks: Suprizingly good, takes the hardest loops and puts it back on the table. More of a survival move then a move to build a game around.

Overall, a good control chopping pip to provide a base for counter-attacking.

Thanks Speedplay, I am a little new to this.

Strangly, P1R is spinnier, but faster. Despite the P1R being in Ox, it feels faster because there is no sponge to work with. P1R generates more spin, but I feel that I am able to manipulate spin better with the phantom. The phantom feels better controled then the P1R, so I tend to like it more. I really cannot provide the differance in hitting performance, as I am recently adding this thread to my game, and really didn't have the guts to hit with the P1R. As I plan to move to a faster blade, I think I am gonna keep with phantom, until I am more used to pips. The P1R is better for the advanced chopper, however I am not that. So, until I get a hold on my pips side, the phantom it is.

I think it's very hard to compare two rubbers, when one is OX and the other with sponge... Adding sponge to LP rubbers changes it dramatically.

I am gonna try 1.0-1.3 P1R on my three ply, becuase I think it might be an ideal pips blade.

The P-1r is a great rubber, but not the easiest to control...

Yes please let us know how you go with the three ply blade. What are the plies in that blade?

The Three ply is Bloodwood/North West Ceder/ Bloodwood. I am about to write a review of it in the equipment section. I have two blades I am gonna be testing as a modern defensive blade. The other is a Joola Viva.

Hey rmaxwellusn, great review. I've been testing the Phantom 008 as well. Can't compare to P1R, but it's way better than 837 pimples in all respects.

Blocking: Surprisingly good. Not hard to control.
Pushing: Reliable for pushing or lifting.
Chopping: Can easily manipulate amounts of underspin and very accurate.
Topspin: Slow, but good control for surprise variation.

I have the Phantom 008 (black) on a slow, light, hard-surface TTMaster Evolutive Defense blade. This is an oversized version of their other blade. Size is the same as the Butterfly Matsushita Pro, by the way, so you can interchange rubbers with that faster blade if you like. Note to Haggisv: The TTMaster blades are excellent defensive blades and reasonably priced (compared to some). Maybe worth getting a sample in and see what you think.

On the other side, by the way, I have the Dr. Neubauer Special Defense (red) -- a slow, grippy defensive rubber. Doesn't create the heavy chops that a sticky rubber does, but control is superb. Topspinning is very good and you can hit those tricky sweeping side-top balls with ease. Not a brute force rubber by any stretch, but good for serving, pushing and a controlled defensive game. This rubber gets little attention, but if your gameplan is to try to deceive and outlast your opponent, it might be a very good option.

I´ve heard that phantom 008 and 009 have same topsheet but different sponges.
Is it true ? Has anyone tried both ?

Haven't tried the 009 (got one on order) 007 and 008 are the same for sure and 009 is also supposed to be the same topsheet with Mark V sponge.

whats the difference between the 007 series and the 11-12 series? I almost got the 12 instead of the 008?

They are similar, but the tips of the 0011/0012 are rough, making them even more grippy. The smooth tops on the 007/008 provide good spin-reversal, whereas you have better ability to create spin with the 0011/0012. 0012 is ox.
