Hi All. What's the lowest spin, quality short pimple out there, for hitting through spin? I've been looking at Spectol, but is there anything with less spin?

If you can handle OX, Dr Evil is excellent for this.

Of the sponged short pips, I'm currently using DHS 651, which so far seems very good for hitting through spin.

Here's an old post with a bunch of rubbers compared: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3469

Thanks for the replies. I'll provide a bit more info. I'm coming from a tennis background. I played one season of competition a few years ago. Here's what happened. I played with a crappy $5 bat. Won all matches but one. Basically wasn't effected by spin, had no problems generating power, and more or less moved my opponents around until I hit them off the table when an opening emerged. I'd guess the rubbers played somewhat like antispin? I then thought I'd learn how to play "proper" table tennis. Bought a Yasaka Extra Gatien 3D bat with Mark V rubbers on both sides. 2.0 on the fh, 1.8 on the bh. Lost the final 3 matches of the season, including to 2 players I'd comfortably beaten with my "crappy" bat. I was suddenly effected massively by spin. I learnt to hit quite a good fh loop and a reasonable chop backhand, but wasn't consistent enough to win. I'm going to be playing another season of comp soon. I want a decent bat that plays to my strengths: ball placement, power and hitting. I'd consider ox if it suited this style.

If you liked playing with the 'crappy' bat, and like to hit and place, hardbat could be a lot of fun. Dr Evil is excellent and very cheap. The other very good option is Butterfly Orthodox. Otherwise, you're just going to have to learn to read and deal with spin, which does take time.

Personally I really enjoy hardbat as a style, so you'll get a biassed view from me :)

I looked up some hardbat on YouTube LordCope and looked right up my alley! But don't think there's much of it in Australia. Do people use hardbat in regular competitions too?

Yep, people play in regular competition with hardbat. It's lot of fun. You'll get a few comments, I expect, and you need to pick your blade carefully, as many modern blades have a rather irksome high-pitched ping when you hit the ball if you don't have sponge, but it's a lot of fun. We have a top 100 vet in England who plays with 2 x Dr Evil.

Any blade recommendations?
I also have an Aplegren Allplay. Would that be suitable?
