Hi I am an 1850 rating player from Denmark.
I am changing from LP to SP, due to serius back injury.
I cannot chop near the floor In My condition and used to have a good Backhand but han problems in service returens.

I would like to okay an allround offensive style with blocking and hitting from the BH side, (SP)
I have just bought an Hexer pips in 1,7 mm
It was the thinnest i could find at My lokal shop.

Which SP would you recommend for a new SP player ?
Most important features is Low reaction in service return good looping / hitting.
Is any SP suitable asay from the table ?

Unfortunately low reaction and good looping are direct trade offs.

Hexer is on the low spin side of spin-oriented pips. Maybe Hexer + is a better option. But both are fastish.

TSP spectol was popular amongst choppers.

You can also give 729 563 a try, medium pips, but good stuff.

+1 for medium pips like the Friendship 563.

Since they're quite cheap you may give a lesser known MP a try:
Kokutaku 110 1mm/1.2 behaves more LP-ish while Kokutaku 119 plays more similar to FS 563, Yinhe Pluto (black), Palio WP1013 is somewhat in between.

Is it 1850 on the danish rating system?

I think the OP is saying he wants to move away from chopping hence the choice of short pips. I'm not sure why everyone recommends rubbers that are "like LP"

Generally with SP you need to play aggressively fairly close to the table. The exception is classic chopping when they work better well away from the table due to their speed. Close to the table you need to use more of a chop block.

the playing characteristics of SPs when using thinner sponge e.g. 1.5mm are heavily influenced by the speed and hardness of the blade. Also be aware of the big increase in bat weight in going from OX to sponge on the BH

If you want low reaction to spin e.g. easy service return and are used to LP then the next step may be a medium pip like Barna half long which you can get in 1.0mm as well as 1.5mm or if you are used to OX maybe Flashback in Ox. Have a look at the Geblock TT videos on you tube.

Why not keep the LP and learn to play offensively with it? With practice, even OX LP can be used to hit counter-drive strokes over the table. You won't find an SP that will help with returning tricky serves.. that's an LP and anti quality.

Excellent point, just have a look at the videos being posted by Sébastien Sauer where he using Hellfire ox close to the table and also the geblock TT LP videos. There is far more to playing with some of the newer LPs than chopping away from the table. Use the spin insensitivity for example to hit fast or slow angled push blocks mixed with chop blocks against topspin and even semi loops against backspin and even flat drives/hits against high balls.

As a former LP player converted to MP I suggest the thinnest sponge available and the smallest and softest pips. Most of LP techinique works with such kind of MP/SP pips except you need to adjust to much higher speed. Your technique will slowly convert with time.

If your try radically different pips you wiil have to relearn you skills from the base.
