Post subject: | suggest a short pip to me |
Hello, I wish to try short pips (penhold fh / tpb) again. i tried it for about a year and want to give it a go again. Previously I used spectol blue 2.0 and 729 105 legend. I liked the spectol blue, I could create a lot of spin on serves, only drawback was difficulty opening attacks, especially against dead balls. I hated 105, soft, no control and no spin, difficult to do most things. I would like to stick to harder sponged pips as I think the soft sponge makes it a bit less linear and more difficult to create spin. Spectol blue is 43 deg. 105 legend i think is 36 deg. I could really brush the crap out of the ball with spectol blue for serving and also hit really well. I would also like a step-up in spin from spectol blue. I was thinking one of the spinpips variants, but the hardest is 37.5 for D2, which may be too soft. Any other suggestions? Firmer sponge with a very spinny topsheet. Thanks |

You can still pick up sheets of Spinpips Blue. Seem the most logical move for you. But even that is too soft IMO. Otherwise, 802-40 works with everything. Start with the 38 degree sponge, I like the 42 myself but that's moving into H3 type of hard rubbers. There are no hard ESN short pips, I've looked. |

Take a model player. Look into the ittf top 300 rankings. A lot of the listed players are known to use short pips. You only need to follow. |
