As an experiment, I am thinking of putting together a setup with a thin balsa core (3-4mm) ALL blade, generic short pips like 802-40 or Globe 889-2, and thin sponge (.5-1.0mm). For some perspective, I stay at the table and block and hit. I played this style with an LKT Toxic 3 with two-sided Dr Evil OX for 10 years and found hitting speed adequate. Now I play the same style with a Stiga Allround Classic with two-sided 889-2 on 1.2mm soft sponge, and I find hitting speed more than adequate. I would welcome all opinions about how this setup should/would/could/might play using my style. Specifically, I would like to hear from anyone who has actually played with a similar setup.
And yes, comments about my sanity are welcome too!

I've used 802-1 and 802 in 1.5 mm on a thick balsa.
It felt very glassy for me, and I struggled to return higher arc loops. But it sounds like you've had to deal with that plenty.

I've since moved to 2.0 and max. Can't play thinner than 1.8 mm with my hitting stroke. Best of luck!
