Do you think there are ever any instances in a game where a player might be given a Yellow card?

Maybe some things to consider are those behaviours of players during a match that aren't necessarily covered by the Rules. It could be something like a player 'vocalising' at a critical moment during a point. It doesn't really bother me if a player is consistently a little 'vocal' - it's their nature, but it's that semi-intentional (or fully intentional) moment when a player says something distracting. I'm sure it doesn't happen often and it's going to be concentrated on a specific type of personality.

Maybe there are other subtle, annoying, unsportsman-like behaviours that warrant the issuing of a Yellow card. Maybe a 'Yellow' card is too harsh. It could be orange. The colour's not so important.

Receiving an Orange card is just a warning, but getting issued with a Red card should penalise the offending player for a point, or some such.

I know that at club level 'inappropriate' behaviour is more common than in a semi- or professional environment. I also know that enforcing Rules at club level is both difficult and, often, unnecessary. At the very worst, futile.

Oh well, I just thought I'd post a Topic and see where it went.

From an accredited umpire:
Level 0: Verbal warning, not recorded
Level 1: Yellow card, warning, recorded
Level 2: Yellow + red card, point awarded to opponent, recorded
Level 3: 2nd Yellow + red card, 2 points awarded to opponent, recorded, usually referee will be called.

Reasons: kicking ball in anger, throwing bat roughly on table, hitting ball hard into floor or barrier, not coming back quickly enough when time is called at end of time out or between games, illegal serves.

Some other things like lifting table and dropping it, hitting table with bat hard enough to leave dent in either etc will result in immediate calling referee without going through the levels.

Talking during a point should result in the immediate loss of the point, same as putting free hand on table before the ball is dead.

Club practise or practise games are different, up to the participants or organiser.

At what point do you forfeit the match?

We had a club member get a red card (which was rescinded) at our last tournament. I am not sure what he did wrong, I heard his side of the story and it sounded perfectly legitimate

When the referee says so. At some point the referee will be called to the match (usually when the 3 point penalty is exacted - the 2nd lot of red and yellow cards, or if a really bad initial infraction has occurred.

A joke (with a little truth in it) among umpires (yes we do have jokes) is that the answer to any curly question in an advanced umpire exam is to ask the referee.

If an athlete deliberately influences his opponent, delays the game, intentionally damages equipment, offends the audience, or abuses the referee. The referee will first warn the athlete.
After being warned, if the athlete commits another foul, the referee will show him/her a yellow card and a red card at the same time and award the opponent one point.
For the second foul by the athlete, the referee may award the opponent two points and show both a yellow card and a red card at the same time.
