My coach went to a recent coaches meeting with some top Chinese coaches.
The Chinese coaches teach having a fixed wrist in the backhand topspin.
They suggest this makes the stroke much more reliable compared to using a relaxed wrist as what ttedge and many coaches teach.
I am now confused to which way is best to apply in my game.
Any comments from the more experienced players on this forum???
Has anyone changed to a fixed wrist stroke from the flexible wrist stroke?

I would say the best backhands of all time belong to European players such as, kreanga or karakasevic..... watch matches and observe....European players win more points with their backhand, choose to use it more, have more spin and power in their shot selection.

The one advantage the Chinese backhand has is that it is short....giving the player time to switch to their forehand.

It's more than that. First off, chinese players use wrist in their backhand. Not sure what they mean by this. The differences I've noted is more in footwork and stroke length / direction. Chinese players do not reorient their footing for backhand. They stay in forehand dominant footing always. If they're right handed, the right foot stays back. Euro styling generally reorients the left foot back (for right handed) to generate more power.

Second, chinese generally don't swing laterally past their shoulder. It's straight out. Euro's swing hard and let that motion go to their side.

Those are the two big differences from what I've seen.
