Hello All,

I habe been playing Table Tennis a year now and have learnt the key techniques. I use DHS3 Neo on the Forehand and Yaska Mark V on the B/H.

I have always been told to brush the ball and learn the game, however lately I have noticed even when the height of the ball is high I intend to brush the ball and smash, because of which there isn't much speed on the ball. Infact I don't remember the last time, I have hit the ball with much speed, since I concentrate more on spin and brush action. I'm not sure if this is the right path. Kindly advice

I think you should smash whenever you can and the first chance you get. Smashing will always be faster because all your energy is committed to one purpose. A lot of modern top players, especially the Japanese school are playing very flat. Serving, pushing, flicking, looping and everything else should be used to help you set up that smash. Looping high balls is like wasting energy.

Just my opinion.

Agreed, however I believe its my F/H Rubber - DHS Hurrican 3 neo - which is ideal for brushing, thus requiring a lot of arm action to get speed. For regular (low height) shot,s if I hit flat with this rubber, the ball always lands at the net, hence I avoid flat hits with this rubber
