Hi guys,

I am thinking of buying a robot for table tennis training. I wonder if it is good to train with Robot for immediate/advanced player. Do you think Robot training will all your skills such as backhand/forehand shot/chop/block in table tennis efficiency as person and person training ? Or Robot just have a limit training ?

My friend told me that he couldn't hit properly after some training with Robot. Is it right ? Maybe he does not have enough training or not the right training lesson ?

Thanks

I have a love/hate relationship with robots. I have had to use one a lot due to covid lockdowns, the ball just never FEELS exactly like someone standing on the other side of you (my newgy doesn't simulate block against topspin imo). That said, certainly it's better than nothing. I feel they work best when you have VERY specific goals. They don't teach you to anticipate well, or read spin. I'd have my wife randomly move it around lol. I've also seen less advanced players develop very bad techniques over long periods of overuse. Examples of this are setting the underspin to something unrealistic, and learning to LIFT the ball back rather than truly loop the ball with good form. Bad habits and tension can become permanent if repeated to such a high degree. For these reasons I spent a lot of time shadow stroking, video recording, using mirrors etc. That all said, now that I'm back to playing in person, I do believe it helped me from becoming too rusty
