I made up a quick return board on my table, so I could see what spin was on my serves, pics below. It's simply 2 planks of wood nailed together, with a row of rubbers glued on there...

I found this really handy! For some of my serves I did not clearly know how much top or backspin was on the ball... this really showed it. I surprised myself a few times, thinking there was backspin, and it turned out to be topspin... It's not all that high, but I figure if it goes over the top, it's a bad serve anyway...

What do you think?

Yes I thought of that...I'll need a lot of dud rubbers! I already used 7 rubbers for this setup. I think it would not work that well for normal drill, the rubber is way to grippy, and even light spin already makes it kick off fast.

Might be able to keep it on the table if I loop with my LPs :D

Cool, do you have copyright on the design? LOL.
I was thinking of making one but could not get myself to make one (lack of time).

What I do is - I always ask a guy or kid at my club, who is about to go home, to return my serves for 5 minutes with one condition....he has to be a very low level. This way I know exactly what each of my serve is and how much spin.

I hope no one at my club read this. 8) ...kidding.
They all have fun returning serves that randomly bound up, down, right and left after the contact. Imagine me returning ma lin's serves.....

I don't like this board.....Why? 7 rubbers to make it ..... :( . May I ask what rubber did you use?

Hah hah... yes that's almost as good as a board... as long as they're not good enough to adjust

I used a bad batch of Goldway rubbers... We bought these directly of Goldway in China and the quality was terrible... they were tensioned unevenly and the topsheet was coming off the sponge for lots of them... Unfortunately we got burnt when they refused to replace them saying there was nothing wrong with them! So we ended up with a spare batch of rubber, just right for jobs like this :D

Needless to say we don't get these any more, although we do still have Goldway rubbers, but these are different versions, made in a different factory...no problems with these at all.
