I have a friend that loves HI toss serves. It still ends up with not much spin, (he's not very good but a real fun and funny guy.)
If the ceiling is 15 feet, he will toss 12 or more. If it is 20, he will toss 16 or 18.
At the last tourney, there was a 24 foot ceiling. There was light fixtures at about 20 feet. He tossed a high one and he stood there looking,,,, and looking,,,, and,,,, LOL, the light fixtures hung down on a rod and looked like a big 3 foot glass frisbee. The ball was in the fixture rolling around. The laughter stopped all play for a bit.
Man, this game is fun!!! :D

Tossing the ball very high would be good to confuse the opponent, but too bad it is not for us aged people with eyes that are not as sharp as those from the young generation :(

Hey LawOCG,
That could be a good tactic in some places, LOB it up into the lights!!! LOL
I play tourneys in one place where the end walls are ALL windows. If I win the toss, I make sure I give the serve away so I can pick the end where I won't be looking at the sun if it goes 5 games. :D

lol I've been trying that lately. Its not so easy to send the ball soaring almost vertically up and coming back down without getting a pounding.

Anyway hightoss is overrated, more of show than anything else. Theres only a handful of players which can actually take advantage of the extra spin gained from the increased momentum. More commonly its airswings and long no spin balls :)
