Hey Def-Attack,

How does it compare to RHINO? I've been using Rhino to learn Anti as an alternate to LP OX for an attacking/blocking game, with a view that I can now block Pace as well as just spin.

Cheers

Hi,
I never tried Rhino, but compared to Bison+ it is faster and has less spin reversal. It is clearly faster when you attack, when you activate the sponge. And I believe that the thicker the sponge, the faster Power Attack is. I liked it but I needed to change back to Diabolic, I did not have the time to learn it properly. Ruturning serves and fast loops were much harder than with Diabolic and other slow antis.

How does the gorilla/grizzly compare to power attack?

Is the reversal of power attack similar to mega-block at all? If you do one of those back spin hits, twiddle your paddle, then "catch" the ball with power attack... does it spin on the rubber top or does it just bounce off?

Power Attack has less spin reversal than Mega Block but more than Gorilla. It is however a lot faster than Bison and of course than Mega Block. On low impact it is quite controlled, more than Gorilla but still faster than Bison. On high impact it can be very fast, almost like a normal but thin rubber. Gorilla holds the ball a very short time and that is why it gives such strange arcs and appears like it has a lot of spin reversal. But on passive blocks it can’t really be compared to antis like Bison, Transformer and similar.

How is the power attack against top spin balls? Can you attack those as you might with grippy long pips? Seeing if it might be usable for a he zhuojia style game

Those attacks are difficult. PA has very little grip, only a tad more than frictionless anti. Django or Anti speed would probably be easier for more attacking agsinst top spin. But I haven’t tried them myself.

Review on Dr. Neubauer Power Attack
Thickness: 1.8mm
Blade: Stiga Emerald (FH side)
Style: Penhold

Power attack is categorized as an offensive frictionless anti. It's top sheet is the same as the traditional frictionless anti but with an offensive sponge beneath it instead of that absorbing sponge they put on those traditonal frictionless antis. The rubber is heavy due to its hard treated topsheet which is common for frictionless anti rubbers.

During the test, I used it on the FH side of my blade playing more of the classic penhold style (lesser RPB and more TPB).

Reversal:
Almost as much as the Rhino but only on passive blocking, chop blocking and push blocking, strokes does not ignite the sponge of the rubber. But on active strokes such as active blocking and counter attacking, stroke in which the sponge is ignited, the ball is dead flat on the table. This characteristics make the rubber more dynamic than the traditional frictionless antis making the user less prone to being pinned down by the opponent.

Speed:
I am a little dissapointed in this area, I expected it to be as fast and dynamic as medium or short pips rubbers but it rather plays out like a tacky chinese rubber (with no spin but with much gears). This means that the speed depends on how much power you put on the shot, like your typical chinese rubber. For someone who is used to rely on the catapult effect of the rubber even when passively blocking, it takes time for me to adjust. It's not all bad though because passive blocking may be slow but it has good amount of reversal in it. But still, spin reversal can only fool low level players, against good players spin reversal will only work the first time and you'll be a sitting duck playing passively.

Control:
On passive or slow strokes control is very high (9/10), everything drops on the opponent side of the table. But during counter attacks and hard shots the control drops a lot (4/10) mostly due to lack of spin of the rubber and high gear speed.

Conclusion:
Power Attack is somewhere in between a Frictionless anti rubber and a Medium pip rubber. It has most of the good side of both types of rubber--reversal on passive strokes like Frictionless anti but flat ball and speed on attacks like medium pips rubber. But I won't rely on its reversal too much because it's not as good as the traditional frictionless anti rubbers. Instead I would recommend this rubber for active players who can capitalize its dynamic nature- players who attack first and attack hard, and only rely on its reversal on emergency situations. It is also a good alternative for medium pip rubbers if you are looking for reversals and more gears.
