I had the chance to play with the new Dr. Neubauer ABS2 GlAnti with 2.1mm sponge in 3 practice sessions and wanted to share my impressions so far. All three sessions were played on an Alser Allround 5 blade (allwood Off- 5-ply blade from Sweden). The pips are visibly shorter than the ones of the regular ABS which I used to play before though I do not have a caliper to actually measure it out. Otherwise the topsheet looks and feels the same. The sponge is also the same well known dampening sponge. Here my impression in comparison to the regular ABS 2.1 in summary:

- harder more direct feel (probably due to the shorter pips); I actually prefer it but if you don't like the harder more direct touch go with thicker sponge
- speed similar (maybe slightly slower?!)to ABS 2.1, which means pretty slow and good dampening on hard incoming shots
- Spin reversal very similar; I really couldn't see a difference here
- lower bounce than regular ABS; I had to get used to it initially and change bat angle slightly but blocks tend to stay low; I don't have the problem of hitting balls over the table
- I would say the sensitivity to bat angle is slightly improved but it was already pretty good with the old ABS
- overall improved control; I'm making less "silly" mistakes

I really like the new ABS2 and it stays on my main bat. I also have the 2.3 and 2.5 version on my way from Germany though that will take 7-10 days to receive. I plan to eventually test them side by side.

How slow is ABS2 compared to Reflection fra DMS? ABS2 is Neubauers slowest right?

I am in search of the slowest ANTI, and so far the slowest have been Reflection for me.

I tried with Toni Anti Hold, but thats not at all slow like Reflection.

Regards

Yes but it is not a frictionless anti so it has no reversal!

I don't know because I have never tested any of the DMS antis. Yes, the ABS2 is the slowest Dr. Neubauer rubber and I have tested all of them. The thicker the sponge the slower the anti, so the ABS2 in 2.5mm would be the slowest.

What about the weight? The 2.1mm version heavy?
I like to know because i play with NSD blade and this blade have BIG headsize.

And the other question the sponge hardness. You say this ABS² have hard feel. The sponge hardness around medium or very hard?

Thanks the answer

The ABS2 is not heavy as the sponge is very light and the topsheet fairly thin; I didn't weigh it though. I could weigh the 2.3 and 2.5 once they arrive. The sponge is hard (I believe I read somewhere 53º but don't quote me on that).

This look great! I really like the hard sponge. Lot of anti have soft sponge. I not like that.

is it one of those antis that if you bend the topsheet at all it's ruined?

It's not quite that sensitive as it is just a modified version of the old ABS which was quite durable. I would still be careful when removing the rubber though.

I bought transformer to try, and vowed I'd never do it again. Even though everyone told me to be careful when removing, and I did take care to remove it gently with lots of tools, it still creased. I was very frustrated and was turned off to Antis after that. Does ABS crease like that if slightly bent? I would expect to want to try the anti on multiple blades.

I have the same experience having removed the diabolic 1.6 from my blade. I quit dms anti even if I still using terror blade.
ABS is very different, I can remove it without problems and the surface remains slippery for ever if u clean it with a towel only... and ABS is not affected by umidity or dust like diabolic was. I remember a tournament where I had diabolic on and the anti turned into grippy ... withot no reason apparently... but then I realized it was its sensibility to external conditions like umidity etc. With ABS I never had this problem.
I suggest u to try some neubauer like the new ABS 2 before you quit anti.
Pick it in max sponge.

Max? Won’t that mean less reversal and more grip?

Not noticeably since the sponge is hard (not soft like some of the DMS sponges) and the topsheet is hard too.

I had quite a few session now with the 2.5mm version of the ABS2 and I do like it better as the 2.1 i initially tested as it provides better control and generally safer play. Here are a few observations from those sessions:

- definitely slower than the 2.1 version
- I can't really see a difference in spin reversal
- the 2.5 has a lower bounce and I had trouble initially with a lot of balls going into the net; some bat angle adjustment was needed but it was not a big deal (I would general prefer an anti where balls go in the net as well over the table; it can be corrected)
- the 2.5 version is much better blocking or returning hard shots; also a lot more "lucky shots" drop in
- it's easier to attack with (better control) but the 2.1 is faster
- the 2.5 is more forgiving so I find it better for aggressive pushes and also attacking serves
- blocking low and short with 2.5 is better

I did record some practice games but my buddy didn't want to make it public on YouTube. ;(
