Hhi i'm playing with dr. Neubauer Bloodhound and ABS2 2.5. I will have to buy a new one and I want to ask what is the difference between ABS2, ABS2 SOFT and ABS2 EVO. How they differ, etc. I looked at the official website of Dr., but according to the description of the products, I am not wise and I am interested in your experience.

I’ve used ABS2 and ABS2 Soft on Xiom Zetro Quad (stiff 9 ply OFF/OFF+ hinoki top ply) both in 2.5.

Soft I feel gives me more control to keep balls in general play though with the compromise of throwing blocks a lot higher/longer vs ABS2. Evo is meant to be the hardest in the series so logically I believe it should block even lower/shorter with a more direct feeling.

I use ABS2 Soft really aggressively as it’s really good against no spin, slow balls and touchy shots I.e it’s perfect against long pips players. I really struggle with it when I’m being attacked as I can’t seem to keep blocks against slow loops that low consistently and I block out fast loops unless I back off the table 1-2 steps giving back a dead relatively harmless ball - opponent would miss their 2nd loop on change of pace rather than the reversal.

Blocking against medium speed loops is the sweet spot for me with good reversal and control. I’ve ended up trying to chop with it which is really easy to do though with little danger which has led me to playing with classic anti on my main setup.

I forgot to mention ABS2 Soft plays really well against H3 users (usually with Viscaria) who are not trained enough to utilise the rubber to its full capacity so give a lot of spin though not the power.

Against a properly trained H3 boosted (the ball path dipping earlier and kicking viciously) it’s GG who am I playing next

Though in all seriousness I’m surprised Luka has not changed to ABS2 Evo so maybe he feels he does need the short game characteristics that I’ve found in Soft against the assumed better blockability/reversal of Evo.

I read in another thread an ABS2 Pro may be coming, which should be a slightly harder or softer ABS2 Evo. I think this would be closer to what Luka and/or Amelie actually uses and will give a boost to sales for EJs who can’t resist!

Thank you very much for the comprehensive answer.

ABS2 Soft attracts me quite a bit, but I'm scared of high blocks

I also read about the ABS2 Pro release, Dr. N is reportedly waiting for the boxes, but the eraser is already available and is also on the ITTF website. Maybe I'll wait for the ABS Pro and then I'll level all the tires and pick up my holy grail: D.
ABS2 is great, but I'm still researching if it could be even better. It's a disease material players.

I'm already playing with the ABS2 Pro. Only available in 2mm, it's a slightly harder and smoother version of abs2 evo, with a different sponge better for agressive push. It's a good rubber, if you're fine with 2.1mm evo then pro will be good. But if 2.1 evo is too fast then pro will be too fast too.

The market is getting quite congested so this will need to be a good one from Dr N.

Is ABS2 Pro starting to head into the territory of Gorilla?

Never tested Gorilla but ABS 2 pro is very similar to ABS2 Evo. Pro is an update of Evo, a bit better spin reversal, a bit better attacking posibilities but a little bit less forgiving.

Thank you for your contribution. I play ABS2 2.5 and Pro probably won't be anti for me. How different are ABS2 and ABS2 EVO in control, block, attack, etc.?

Where did you find Pro for sale? I can't seem to find a site that has it.

I got mine in the mail directly from the Doc yesterday. Not sure when I will be testing though. I currently play the ABS Evo 2.3mm.

I'll be looking forward to reading the reviews. Really, I'm interested in, does it have a lot more reversal than the previous models.

I will probably play with it during league match this week. Level between 1600-1900 USATT
