I tried someone's anti and was extremely surprised to find that all of the attacking strokes I use with short pips/no sponge worked identically to anti. Has anyone found this to be roughly the case?

I think it depends on the anti you use. I think the sponge on the anti can suck the energy out of incoming shots much more than with hardbat. Hardbat shots can also be much faster. I think the strokes are similar, and transferring between anti and hardbat is relatively easy, but the effect on the ball is quite different.

That is for the the traditional antis. I never used the new frictionless stuff, but that sure looks different from what I have seen.
