Good video, I don't think it's been posted yet.

I find it a little hard to believe that every balls is checked manually for several different properties...especially since they can produce 600,000 balls per day! Perhaps it's more like doing spot checked every so often, because it would otherwise take a lot a staff to do these checks!

Only the "competition" balls are checked by hand. The whole batch is first checked by an "automated" line. Even so, I am amazed to see how much human interaction there is along the way.

Wages are probably so like they can afford a lot of staff.

I think it's also a bit of a marketing video too, giving us the impression that every single competition ball is manually checked for all the required characterics, which certainly gives it a nice selling point.
Still it's a great video, showing all the steps involved!

I'm wondering if this is actually the Shanghai Minkow factory. Compare the photos of the plant here:

and in the video. Not conclusive, but note the blue trim, especially the blue corner pillar in this photo:

(This is as bad as peering at bad video frames of people's rackets to figure out what rubber they're using.. )

The actual production process seems unchanged from the old celluloid balls. Minkow used to OEM for DHS as well as Stiga, Tibhar, etc., but this claim is no longer on the website. They do seem to have switched to selling seamless balls under the "Kingnik" label, so perhaps the old factory got sold off to (or is simply making balls for) DHS. There can't be too many of these factories around the world, and some of those machines in the video look like they've been in use for many years. Interesting that the plastic discs are shipped to the factory in those wooden "ammo boxes".

The QC steps also seem unchanged from the past - I remember seeing the veer test in particular. What happens to the balls that fail the test? Probably become one star balls...

What I would love to see is a video of seamless ball manufacture.

By the way... here's an idea for something I can print out on my 3D printer.. Might be useful as trophies...
