Last year she used to shriek . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNiRgoXVG8Q

This year it seems she continues to shriek https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytjaMXF9jN4

the video you posted was a friendly game .It appears in competition the yelling helps to release tension,...... I do not like this behaviour ,.... but I understand when it is done under pressure .

Now we can understand all the yelling of the pros; it seems all starts when young, young , young ,...

She was? I couldn't hear anything other than a few yells...

Nothing Sharapova-like (or Larcher de Brito-like) in any case..

Remember these two?

They'd be 13 years old this year, it'll be interesting to see how they fare next year. If you recall, we started hearing about Ito-san and Hirano-san when they were 13 or 14. By 15 they were representing Japan, and by 16 winning against the likes of Ding Ning. Oshio-san in particular - how would that weird style fare on the international stage?

In case you don't remember Yuna:

Somebody sure is offended

He had to offend Igor, who therefore is no longer in love with Mima

Her opponent, the girl with this weird grip.. she sometimes switches to SHAKEHAND and CHOPS. Did anyone notice it? Watch the match. for example scroll to 3:23. |( |(

I don't understand what her coaches are thinking honestly. She has two distinct styles. Why not stick with one and work on it.
I would guess her pips are SHORT so she can hit/drive and chop fairly well. Just a guess though.

I suspect Yuna-chan plays because she enjoys playing and winning, rather than because she's being pressured to compete. As such, her parents are OK with letting her choose her own path, rather than choosing a coach who would force a style upon her. Note that she doesn't just play table tennis, in the Bobrow video it turns out she's also a champion boxer in her age and weight class. I hope she sticks with table tennis and doesn't lose interest, she's very good indeed and it'll be very interesting to see if she'll make it into the ranks of the Japanese team and onto, say, H2.

More Miwa-chan.

A real nail-biter, too.

This was from four years ago. Not sure what it was for.

Mixed doubles with her brother!

Miwa-chan is now World #14. Mima-san is #10. Yuna-chan? She's currently ranked 131, and is apparently still active, she played in Doha in October, made it into the finals of the U-19s and won the U-15s. Yuna's ranking is actually a great deal better than it looks - if you look at the Youth rankings, among U-19 girls, Miwa is #3 and Yuna is #5. Among the U-17 and U-15 girls, they are #1 and #2.

Yuna apparently has an older sister, Haruna (at least, I assume they're sisters) - she's ranked 118 and is a chopper. Here she wins her match in the finals of the U-19 event at the World Youth Team Champs in Slovenia recently. Strangely enough, Haruna is ranked #97 among U-19 girls (Yuna is #5).

This popped up on my YouTube feed a little while ago:

It's a women's pro league match between the Mallets and the.. Asteroids(?).. Why did YouTube bring up this video? Perhaps because I watched 2 or 3 matches involving Ojio Haruna, and she apparently plays for the Mallets. her match begins at 1:27:00 (it's a 3 hour video). Sato Hitomi plays for the other team, and is the highest ranked player in the match. If you watch them introducing the teams at the beginning, they display everyone's world ranking, so all of these players have played in ITTF tournaments. Haruna is quite a spectacular chopper. I'm wondering if she actually gets topspin with some of those backspin chops. From what I see in the comments, she's got a following.
