Are you Australian Carbonman?

William went tru unbeaten and Robbie Frank also thru, the next 4 men play off again (is this for 1 spot or 2 spots?)

Yes, Im from Melbourne.

From what I understand 4 go through to the Oceania qualifying tourney. As you said, Henzell and Frank are already thru. Gerada, Carter, Powell and Han battle out today for the remaining 2 spots.

The only way we will get live streaming of an Australian open is if one of us leave an iphone pointing at the match, the organisers of table tennis here... no hope with such a high technoligy

Perhaps I should setup an iphone stream at the local tournaments :?:

A "dead" stream would even do LOL

Looks like Justin Han is the 3rd.

I was there umpiring ...

Thurday was a KO for qualifiers not ranked in the top 6 in the country.

For the men, Kiet Tran & Wade Townsend progressed through to the 8 person round robin.

For the women, Melissa Tapper & Peri Campbell-Innes progressed through.

Friday & Saturday, the top 6 plus the 2 qualifiers played a round robin. The top 2 from this qualified to go to the Oceania stage, while the bottom 2 were eliminated from further consideration.

For the men, William Henzell & Robert Frank qualified, while Kiet Tran & Wade Townsend were eliminated.

For the women, Jian Fang Lay & Vivian Tan qualified, while Melissa Tapper & Claire Campbell-Innes were eliminated after countback.

Sunday, the remaining 4 played a round robin for the remaining 2 spots at Oceania - and their results among themselves were carried forward from the previous round robin.

For the men, Justin Han & David Powell (in that order) qualified for the last 2 spots. The final match between Simon Gerada & Trent Carter was a "dead rubber", so according to some onlookers it appeared that Simon turned it into an exhibition match.

For the women, Miao Miao & Peri Campbell-Innes (in that order) qualified for the last 2 spots. Chermaine Chen pulled a "hammy" (hamstring) in her 2nd match and had to withdraw, leaving the final singles played between Peri & Michelle Beaumont the decider between them.

Also, in addition to qualifying for the Oceania Olympic Qualifying Tournament next month, the top 3 qualifiers are also in the Australian team for the Worlds, along with a 4th team member chosen by a TTA committee (can't remember which one). Hence the "in that order" comment in the previous paragraphs.

There were a number of players carded, largely for time violations - the first warm & humid weather Sydney has seen for ages saw many players deliberately try to slow things down. A couple of yellows were for deliberately smashing the ball into the barriers.

We umpires were a little hot under the collar & tie uniform we wore - fortunately the referee allowed us to dispense with the jacket / blazer that is part of the whole uniform.

Incredible that Anna Du (great young player from my club) was seeded No.1 in the Women's knockout while Melissa Tapper and Peri Campbell-Innes were seeded 3 and 4 and the latter 2 made it through to the end. Sounds like Melissa got cut at the very end but Peri made it in, is that what you're saying there Retriever?

Anna will be upset she missed it, but she's only 17, so she'll have another chance in 2016 if she keeps at it. She doesn't even hit like the boys...she hits like a man

Hi Reb,

Women that made it to OOQT: Jian Fang Lay, Vivian Tan, Miao Miao, Peri Campbell-Innes.
Men that made it to OOQT: William Henzell, Robert Frank, Justin Han, David Powell.

The 1st 3 in each have also qualified for the Australian team for the Worlds, with a 4th to be selected by TTA committee after the OOQT, which is next month, also in Sydney.

Peri did very well, not being ranked in the top 6 due to not playing much last year, apparently.

I umpired Anna Du's elimination match with Melissa Tapper, and from memory Melissa couldn't handle Anna's power at the beginning, but towards the end was blocking her off, mostly with great backhands.
