This has been posted on a couple other forums.
I think it would be terrible. :@

Resolution to the AGM 2011
Simple majority required
Proposed by the LAT TT Association
To discuss the service rule in terms of Law 2.13.3:
The change of the serving player or pair in accordance which player or pair has scored
the previous point. The next server of the rally is the player or pair, who has lost the point
in the previous rally (2.13.3)
Rationale:
After sufficient changes in the Laws of Table Tennis have been accepted (game until 11 points and
2 services in turn) it is time to improve our sport with more radical changes in the order of serving
and receiving.
This proposal is the opposite as in volleyball, but in table tennis, we hope that it will promote the
game, because it will not be possible to win the game or the match with the service or sometimes
with bad or suspicious service. For the winner of the game or the match it will be necessary in the last rally to have good return.

The key phrase is more radical changes. The ITTF mantra.

I have good services. These new rules will work against me. Normally I will have 3-4 easy point just from my services. With this new rules, the easy point is just to replace my lost point.

This part is interesting also;

"This proposal is the opposite as in volleyball, but in table tennis, we hope that it will promote the
game, because it will not be possible to win the game or the match with the service or sometimes
with bad or suspicious service."

I thought that is what umpires were for. Maybe the real problem is not enforcing the rules we have now. Rules to fix rules, to fix rules, to fix rules. :headbang:

When at duece, you only get one serve anyway, so where is there a problem? If it goes to duece, if you have killer serves then he must be a stronger player in the rest of the game. So taking away the serve would favor the other player. :@

Is this proposal something new? I remember we discussed some service rule proposals only a few months ago...

I'm sorry if I'm repeating what is in a previous post but didn't want to wade through 5 pages of discussion to find out.

You really can't compare with other sports such as volleyball as in that sport the advantage is with the recieving team. They get to have the first chance to dig, set and spike to win the point. It is generally harder to win the point as a server than a reciever. In table tennis and tennis this is the opposite as there is a distinct advantage to the server. This is also the case with badminton and squash but I think to a lesser extent.

At my level of play, the umpires are also the players and although some people are more than happy to pick up serving irregularities, plenty of others are not. We have all types of personalities and characters that play the game and reality is that a passive person will be reluctanct to penalise anyone let along a dominating aggressive character. If the true basis for changing the rule is to lessen the effect of serving abnormalities in B grade table tennis played by kids and 60 year old women in country towns and be fair to the volunteers who umpire, then perhaps its a good thing though I doubt this is what they are trying to do.

On that basis I would agree with the view of most on the forum and ask whether it really is a problem and if its not broke why fix it?

Correction. This passed 73:48, but only for further discussion.
