According to an Adham`s earlier statement, all of the "major" tt-manufacturers have been instructed by the ITTF EQC Chief , Mr. Gustavsen, "NOT to market any rubbers over 3.80mm thick for the playing season ongoing", that after September1, 2009.
Furthermore, actual thickness value must take place on EVERY rubber envelope to be manufactured afterwards.
However, at present time, I only know of one-single rubbermaker to indicate the total rubber thickness on his products -- HAIFU of China. And none else.

How were they 'instructed'? The ITTF has no power over how rubbers are packaged, nor how they are marketed...

This was proposed by China at the 2009 AGM in Japan and defeated. Why would they implement this now if it was defeated in a vote by the national associations?

PROPOSITION 3 DEFEATED

Proposed by the Chinese Table Tennis Association: To modify paragraph 2.4.3

A side of the blade used for striking the ball shall be covered with either ordinary pimpled rubber, with pimples outwards having a total thickness including adhesive of not more than 2mm, or sandwich rubber, with pimples inwards or outwards, having a total thickness excluding adhesive of not more than 3.8mm and including adhesive of not more than 4mm.

Propositions to the AGM 2009

and they just keep continuing to destroy this sport. What kind of a stupid idea is it to have a rule which says you aren't allowed to modify the rubber, and says it must be 3.8 mm or less when it comes out of the package. But when it's on the blade it's allowed to be 4 mm again, that would be cheating!

Seriously, let's take power and make some good rules!

Interesting that they want to limit the thickness on pips. I know short pips don't come in anything thicker all too often, but I think you can get 2.2.
